Dungeons & DMing in between sessions

I'm trying to do a bit of interaction between myself and the players in my D&D campaign in between sessions. I like to use this as a way to get some information to players that I don't want to be public knowledge. I think it makes the game a bit more interesting when everyone is playing with different pieces of the puzzle. My goal is to make all of the players feel like they are more a part of the story and that they matter. I will need to develop this much more as we get into our session.

Another good use for interaction between sessions is progressing past individual parts in the story. Right now it's convenient since we ended last session with everyone getting hauled off to jail. Everyone has been interrogated and I wanted that experience to be unique for each player. The four interrogations went in vastly different directions and it really helped me get a feel for how each player wants to play in this campaign. As a DM I approached each interrogation differently and used a unique tactic for each conversation. Since the players weren't all listening in on each interrogation I was able to lie and manipulate a bit more without having the other players meta-gaming.

I would say I did a rather poor job of the interrogations but I did learn a bit about each character. I have a laid back player, a dark and brooding player, an oblvious player and a conceited character. I'm not even sure the player were aware of how they each came off during the interrogations but I'm interested to see if they keep these behaviors into the campaign.

I don't want to reveal too much at this point since a few of the players are members on Steemit but I think it's going to be a very fun and interesting campaign.
