Ladders are Deadly

Did you know that in Australia one in six fatalities due to fall from height are from ladders? https://www.safeworkaustralia.gov.au/system/files/documents/1702/falls-from-height.pdf

So it was my great pleasure today to decide that I needed to unblock an overflowing downpipe. Now normally this would be a simple and easy job, but today the wind was blowing at gale strength and the rain was belting in sideways. So during a brain fade, I decided to hoist up the ladder and climb two stories up to unblock a downpipe.

Once I was up there I realised the error of my judgment as the rain smacked me in the eyes and I swayed in the wind but my resolve was steely and I completed the task in light of the conditions.

Now I should have really thought about that decision in light of why I was home early from work. I had to pick my daughter up from school after she took a dive and headbutted a desk in her classroom (she is alright, but will have a nice shiner tomorrow). But still I climbed that ladder.... and survived.

I can see why people suffer so many injuries from ladder falls after choices like the one I made today.

My learning from today...... If it is pelting down with rain and the wind is blowing the trees over, don't climb a ladder or you could become one of those fatalities....

Phew!! Glad you made it down to tell the story mate!! It can get pretty hairy up there at the best of times!

it creeps me out when someone goes up to clean my gutters. Its so dangerous, it should require a harness somehow or someone needs to design something safer! Hope u are okay!!

Scoots. COMMON SENSE CHILD. The weather might have suggested that perhaps then was not the best time to carry out that particular mission XD Glad you survived to tell the tale O_O

I've worked in construction for over 30 yrs. I personally knew only 2 people who died on construction sites. One had a heart attack, the other fell off the 3rd rung of an 8' step ladder and broke his neck.

You should probably teach your daughter how to dive correctly as well as when ladder use is not appropriate. If she is landing on desks while diving, I suspect she may not be diving in the correct direction from the diving board.

Yeah. But I am always looking for the positives and she got me out of half a day at work!

Creative subject matter and I think will be helpful to others as a reminder to always be careful when using ladder, ladder can be dangerous if not used properly.

So really using a ladder in wild weather is really of great risk ... But in my country there are no option to replace the use of ladder for it purpose .

学会合理正确的使用梯子,这是关乎生命的大问题!

your right @scooter , ladders kill and in seconds
