Whilst it is great that Steem stupendously well with the daily users, it is a little unfair to count the different alternatives to Steemit (busy, esteem, steempeak) as different dapps. We don't need that number inflation, it is more a marketing tactic. However actifit, Steem monsters Steem hunt and these other things are really great and different ways of interacting with the Steem chain.

I hear you and I agree. But in a decentralized world they are exactly that.
Additionally, we need to also keep in mind that Steemit is the centralized initial rollout platform and thus has a first mover advantage and until now also a SEO stranglehold due to the lack of any
rel="canonical"
option for apps. Based on all that it would be unfair to totally ignore the others, even more keeping in mind that while Steemit is fully responsive we still have no mobile app. Not unless we consider the “alternatives” which are also “everything buckets”.But it is why I didn’t focus on their numbers yet looked at the targeted content interfaces mostly.
Ah right, I hadn't thought about that... Yes, steemit pretty much wipes out everything else when you are searching on Google for anything Steem related. If I'm lucky I might see a steemkr or an mspsteem link, but you are right, the newcomers have a mountain to climb in that respect!
... and I hadn't thought about it in a de-centralised way either... old habits are hard to break!
No worries, that’s totally understandable. Even more so since currently this is still a rather small scene and very meta echo chamber.
Yet, you have to imagine that once the SMT platform is rolled out each of those alternative interfaces could tokenize. Beyond tokenizing they could even decide to not pay SBD or STEEM out anymore and replace those with their own token (vests is a compulsory payment method for SMTs).
At that point, the whole “thinking” around “yet another steemit alternative” should change. ;)
Phew! Lots of promise and chaos to come then! And I guess that explains all the jockeying for position recently! Luckily the Steem chain seems to be fast and stable enough to handle it.
