I recently wrote a short piece about what I consider to be an exciting new Ethereum blockchain game called CSC.
On the 10th of May, they started the MEA or Mining Expedition Alpha. Anybody who has a ship or voucher can try this out and begin exploring new planets and mining resources that will be claimable and usable in the game for crafting or trading!
While the current build and objectives are somewhat limited, the game is already running on the Unity engine and works fairly well for what was promised so far. I will say the gas prices per mining run do seem a bit high but hopefully that will improve in the future. The team also has mentioned their intention to use a Plasma Cash style system for in-game mining so that items can be accrued offchain until they are withdrawn as ERC20 tokens.
What do you think about this minigame/test of concept?
I am personally dumbfounded at all of these Ethereum based crypto games that keep popping up. I am going to have to start watching closer. Lol. Thanks for the heads up on yet another.
I just learned about a city building one less than half an hour ago.
Yea the ethtown one is interesting too. Looks like it will develop into an arcade with a bunch of different games/casino type things. What interests me is the idea of games using high level engines and producing the equivalent of a WoW or EVE or ESO where the grind can reward you with money. Of course this inherently allows for pay to win potentially so I'm curious how that will be mitigated as well.
I never thogught about the pay to win mentaluty effecting other genres using crypto to power them.
Good point.
I think it would only be a problem if playerd were able to open their own weapons stores or something in an MMORPG type game. What would stop the owner from price gouging on health potions if they are rare at that time?
Maybe a central auction house or something could help with that type of thing?
Though it would be awesome to be able to sell a high level character for real momey and not have a company saying we cannot do that.

That's what I see as the best part.
I guess to expound, my main concern is that there are many who's fortunes exploded from their crypto holdings in the past year/ So even if buying a large fraction of the best gear is expensive it may not be relatively so to that user. Allowing them to potentially corner the market or just buy their way to the top in a way that would take a normal user a long time to get to.
