Interesting stuff.
Readable names are really useful. Nobody will remember a long crypto wallet address. Hive had them from the start, but people have grabbed thousands that others may have wanted. Hive accounts are pretty cheap really, so it was easy to do. I wonder if this will cause problems down the line.
I see identity as an important issue. Crypto is good for that as you can prove it cryptographically.
I agree with you, Hive was one of the first to have user readable names when Steemit did it, and it is a very valuable characteristic.
I also agree that that many people camp on names that others might use because they can.
It is unfortunate, and we also have the similar name issue with people creating similar names to collect funds mistakeably sent to look alike addresses.
Petty theft type stuff, which doesn't speak highly of those who commit this type of offense.
It makes it an added expense for a reputable project to also buy or create accounts with look a like names to protect their potential customers from their mistakes.
Cryptocurrency is full of landmines or ways to lose your money.
It's a huge take responsibility for your actions, even when you don't understand eactly what your doing situation.
I hope Dash's efforts help prevent these issues.
:)
Yes, we feel that this solution can help solve most of the issues that crop up.
Dash has the benefit of not needing usernames, so users can send and receive while they're waiting to get their perfect name.
