c0ff33 drives to Pontefract - V. Wet (I should have used a boat!)

in #dashcam7 years ago (edited)

Good news, finally some driving footage with no snow involved 😃 The UK has finally returned to it's regular weather conditions.

That's right, the tropical temperatures of 6 degrees Celsius and of course it's Raining. Near gale force winds as well, perfect morning to drive to Pontefract to deliver and install a 2 group espresso coffee machine. And where I am delivering to is in the pedestrianised centre of Pontefract - so I have to get there before 10am and the barriers go up closing off the centre from traffic.

The problem with setting off at rush hour in the morning, is my route takes me past Leeds on the M62 - a particularly busy and slow section. Insert various fond words of driving encouragement here 🤬

Clearing the jams it's still soaking wet, if in doubt the force will see you through!

Finally we are nearly at the destination, Sunny Pontefract by the Sea.

A brief pause to call for directions - it went something like "Where is your Shop, I'm parked next to B & M" He says drive onto the pedestrian area "But the entry has a NO ENTRY sign?" Nobody pays any attention to that he says.

Follow me he says, good plan but you are walking and I am driving - where was that button that narrows my SUV width

Finally parked up to unload I would have taken some photos, but after all the hastle getting there I was more interested in getting the job done. Added complications were the lack of the correct electrical fitting to wire the machine to - so I had to resolve that myself, the builders were quite helpful and encouraged me to flush the cold water feed into the sink - the plumber was not so pleased as he was finishing the drain connection at the far end of the pipework and got a face full of cold water 😳 The shop was still a building site but I have to return in the future so hopefully will grab some pictures then.

Setting off to leave, I do a slow tour of the pedestrianised town centre, every exit I pass is blocked by bollards because it is well past 10am. Back to the shop to enquire how I escape from Pontefract. Bollards are up 10am to 4pm the builders helpfully say. Bollards I say 🤬 A quick phone call to da boss man "Drive up to the bollard where you came in" he says "It has a pressure plate before it and will lower the bollard so you can leave" Ah Bollards I said.

The trick does indeed work, although I can't decide how long to wait for them to drop - you can't see them below the bonnet line - and I don't want to wait too long incase they come back up while I am passing by! Using the force I pass without adding some new bodywork air vents to the car.

Driving back the Sat Nav decides to take the scenic back roads to make the video more interesting. It also had me join the motorway after the roadworks.

Nearly back to work, the busy A58 has flooded from all the rain.

And entering Halifax another flood - not rain this time a burst water main.

And that was my Wednesday morning, never a dull moment despite the weather.

So cool seeing and experiencing your day All be it a Dark great and wet day was still fun to follow along with you

Thank you, we get used to being wet in the UK - in fact moaning about the weather is a national past time!

Yes indeed I know I have many friends from there and also my wife is from there 😎

And I bet they always complain about the weather! My best friend from school now lives and has a family in Boston - I have visited America a few times but to be honest the flight times are a killer!

Ohh yes indeed lol

You think that flights bad try flying down under!!!

Wow! Is always rains that way? That is f..... crazy! I love going through out that city, excellent content my dear friend for today’s vlog.

It has actually been quite a great deal more wet then usual for the UK, this was the worst weather of the whole week and it was just typical of my luck the only day I had to drive somewhere to deliver equipment. Thank you as always for taking the time to view my work and without fail leave a comment - I really do appreciate it fully and wish I had the time to comment on all of your posts.

I'm glad your balmy weather returned. We are supposed to get 20cm of snow in the next few hours.

Excellent, grab the ski's or snowboard and head for the hills ⛷🏂 Thank's for dropping by, I appreciate you have even more people to keep up with and comment on then I do so it is very much appreciated 👍🏼

Its too cold to go out! And I'm terrified of skis on hills so I do xcountry skiing only. Cheers cham☕☕

every day is an adventure! Stay awesome dude...

Thank you very much, this is one day for sure that cycling to work would not be so much fun! I appreciate you calling by and enjoying my little slice of my own day.

It may be the perspective from the camera, but I am always amazed at how close and tight many of the paths are there. I think that on nearly every one of the dash vids. Here in the States, guys would be ripping off mirrirs left and right lol.

The roads for this trip are pretty wide, you don't have to go too far off the main roads though to find tracks that are only wide enough for a single car - so if you meet someone going the other direction one of you has to reverse to the nearest passing place! I try to avoid them where I can, although my usual route to work will be closed for a week again soon - so I might try one of the very narrow back roads just to grab the footage for a post! Thanks for dropping by my friend.

Hey! I spotted a piece of blue sky in that second to last photo! How'd that happen?!
I enjoy your style very much, your wise man was indeed wise!

Tell me about it, some days you go out thinking it's sunny - walk for five minutes and it's pouring with rain! Thanks for the kind words and dropping by to view my work - it is very much appreciated :-)

I'll follow you when my bandwith issue will be ok...thanks for supporting

Thank you for taking a look at my post, just leaving a comment is more then enough reward for me you are very kind and I enjoy your blog posts very much :-)

all your way is very picturesque ! the buildings and these winter skeletons of trees standing among the roads. and my fav part of the musical part is in the middle - connecting well with the time of day (early morning) and relaxing as well

Thank you, yes sometimes we have some quite nice scenery around us. The music was pure luck, I mostly use royalty free music from www.bensound.com because it is actually free - quite hard to find nowadays. Your support is very much appreciated :-)

Thank you, but it is @bridget.art you should visit and tell because she drew it for me. She is a very talented artist and a wonderful person to follow.

Okii Friend :)

Kudos to you for taking the photos and the video in such a weather! I used to complain about snow and the biting freezing temperatures I get in Canada but seeing how gloomy it is in UK and knowing how much it rains there, I think I rather take the snow. At least here I see the sun more often ;0)

Thank you very much, it isn't always this grey and gloomy in the UK...well actually it is always this grey and gloomy in the UK - just in summer it's a lighter shade of grey! I have always wanted to visit Canada, it looks so beautiful and I do like to Snowboard and it's a great country for that! I'm really loving your blog, and truly appreciate you have taken the time to visit mine. Stay safe. 🙌🏽

This is why it's nice being in the UAE in January. After 3 years, January gets cold. Don't laugh, I've acclimatised. 40 degrees plus is something to experience though.

I can not deny you made a very good decision, loving your blog posts and you are living in an amazing place with a wonderful family. Thank you for calling by on my blog, sometimes on Steemit it's almost fate that like minded people somehow connect together 🇬🇧

It was all for the sake of love. It is difficult to bring a spouse from the Philippines into the UK. Now that I've been here for 3 years, I'm not sure I'd want to go back and teach full time. 18 hours teaching is standard here. I don't take work home.

That is some really crappy weather!!! We had sunny skies today! Which was great because I got to go to a 62 acre garden!!!! I hope it dries up for ya'all soon! Stay dry and warm.. much love!

I don't like to moan... well actually we always do in the UK - that's pretty much standard fare for us. Although the really funny part is when we get some sunny weather - and everyone moans it's too hot to do anything. It's a miracle anything get's done over here - it's either too wet, too cold, too windy, too sunny, too many leaves on the train lines, too much ice on the road, too much snow on the paths. The absolute icing on the cake is when we get to summer, have a period of mostly overcast and not too warm weather - and then get told there is a hose pipe use ban for gardens because the water board reservoirs are low of water!

Lol... That does seem like a conundrum lol

I do not envy you having to be in rush hour traffic. I am lucky I can avoid most heavy traffic on our drive to our jobs.

That was the absolute worst time to head out, ideally if I left a few hours later it would have been less then half the time to get there. But then the pedestrian centre would have been closed so I would have had to carry all the equipment I was delivering a long way. Thank you for always dropping by, very much appreciated.

Ah the sunny uk how I miss living there, look at those wonderful dark skies and temperatures that chill you to the bone.
I don't think in all the time I lived in the uk I had ever been to pontefract I seem to think its in yorkshire would I be right ???

You are very right, Pontefract is in the heart of Yorkshire. I live in Bradford and work in Halifax. Thank you for dropping by and leaving a comment :-)

The animated images impart a feeling as though one is accompanying you in the vehicle!

Great post to tell it as it is, with the wet weather to give company. And so much water on the roads - I agree, you should have used a boat!

Thank you very much for dropping by my friend, I realised after some time that not everyone would like to sit and watch a video - so using the gifs I give the interesting sections to see live and try to explain it - so the blog really is the whole video broken down into readable sections. And yes, it was a very wet day!

Sounds you have had busy day, but I assume it is a normal day for you, watching the video it looks like you are plenty time on the road, although it is a part of your everyday work I believe. I hope to see more nice weather soon and lovely green of spring soon

Thank you for taking the time to look at my blog, yes I am too looking forward to the warmer and sunnier weather of Spring.

Ah good old Sunny Yorkshire, the weather is often this nice :)
