Online dating in 2023 💌
I made my way back out into the world of dating about a month ago. I spent about 2.5 years in my last relationship but it came to a close a little over a month ago. No need for details about it as nothing crazy happened and it's honestly not that interesting of a story. Just know that everything is okay for both of us and we are both happier this way and still able to remain friends to this day.
Now that I'm single though, the obvious move is to start meeting some new people. There are many options to go about this but by far the easiest way in our modern era is dating apps.
I won't waste my time on a dating app that wants me to pay just to talk to people. However, all of the dating apps do at least have an optional subscription that will boost your status in the sea of potential mates. I don't think you really need to buy into the subscriptions, but it's totally up to you.
Out of the many dating apps you can use, I have narrowed it down to my three favorites. Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge. Each one offers something slightly different, but you'll most likely want to use all three if you are trying to maximize the chances of actually meeting somebody you like and want to be with.
Today I wanted to talk a bit about each of the three best dating apps. Then we will try to determine which one is the best. A lot of it is going to depend on what exactly you are looking for and how patient you are with the process.
Tinder 🔥
The OG of dating apps. Tinder was released all the way back in 2012 and has since evolved into an extremely popular app. The release happened right as I got to college, so it was honestly such a blessing for a formerly shy guy like me. I sucked at meeting people in person at the time and all of a sudden having a reliable dating app was huge.
Fast forward to now and the app is totally different, yet very similar at the same time. You still go through the same process of setting up a profile and then swiping right (for yes) and left (for no) on a nearly unlimited option of users. It can become overwhelming with how many options you are provided. If you are willing to skip through all of the ones that do not interest you, there is a lot of potentials.
Pretty much anybody who is single and looking to date is on Tinder. Some think of it as a hook-up app, but it's far from that. Pretty much every girl I've talked to on there is looking to actually get to know somebody and potentially date long-term.
Out of the three apps, Tinder gives you the most features for free. As a guy, you get about 50 likes per hour. Females often get up to double that many, depending on how the algorithm works. You get unlimited left swipes, so saying no doesn't affect how much you can say yes.
You can of course pay for one of the subscriptions of which there are three. Tinder Plus ($8/month) gives you unlimited likes and the ability to change your location. Tinder Gold ($25/month) gives you that and also the ability to see who likes you. Tinder Platinum($30/month) gives you the chance to send a message before you even match with the person.
The one bad thing about Tinder is if you like somebody, you still may not show up for that person if they receive a lot of likes or aren't on the app much. Unless they are a paid user, which most people aren't, then they do not get a notification that you liked them. This means there is a lot of hoping and waiting with Tinder. You sometimes have to get lucky, because even if you are an ideal match for someone, they may never even notice you.
Bumble 🐝
A few years after Tinder had caught fire, along came Bumble. This was a very similar experience but had a few stark differences. For one, men were never allowed to message first. This means that if you match with a girl, you have to wait on her to send you a message. Sometimes they will and sometimes they won't. Unlike Tinder, your matches do expire on Bumble. You get the option to extend the match or rematch, but you only get a very limited number of each of those per day. You also only get 25 free likes per day, which is a fraction of what Tinder allows for free.
Bumble also has a BFF and BIZZ section but I will be only talking about the DATE portion of the app.
Bumble's subscription service is called Premium and it is in my opinion very over-priced. $20 for just a week. You may get lucky and be offered a discount if you are new or have been a free user for an extended period of time. The app knows how to tempt you to pay. Being able to see all of the people like like you with the Beeline is a very handy feature. You also get unlimited likes, extends, and rematches.
Overall, bumble seems to be slightly more focused on long-term dating than Tinder, but not having the ability to contact the female first can be an issue. Some girls are rather shy and don't know what to say. I'm not sure why they'd be on Bumble since they must initiate, but there are plenty of shy girls on the app who match with you and then let the match expire.
Hinge 🖤
Hinge launched in 2013, but for me, it really never was an option. it has since gained some popularity and is a viable dating app. Hinge's motto is "The app that is designed to be deleted". Their goal is to help you find that special person and then never use the app again. It's a great goal, but it's not always that simple. Online dating provides an endless amount of options, which also makes it very difficult for somebody to settle down with just one person. Why do that when you can always have that feeling of being with somebody new? All hope is not lost though.
Hinge is the most unique of the three apps. For one, you can only say yes to 8 people per day. They do at least get a notification if you liked them, so that's nice. You also are allowed to comment on their photo or a specific aspect of their profile before matching.
One of the best parts about Hinge is how detailed you can make your profile. You can upload not only photos but also videos and even voice recordings. The app provides you with many different icebreaker questions that you can answer. This makes it very easy to find something to say to your next match that isn't a simple copy-and-paste job.
Hinge has two different subscriptions. Hinge+ and HingeX. Hinge+ is $15/month and gives you unlimited likes and lets you filter your options by things such as location. Without the subscription, you often will be shown people who live 50+ miles away. I usually prefer to keep my radius under 30 miles personally. HingeX costs $25/month and gives you all of what Hinge+ offers, but also things like priority likes, enhanced recommendations, and skipping the line.
You will spend the least amount of time looking through profiles on Hinge from where you get so few free likes per day. I think this is the one that has the greatest potential in terms of finding somebody that you actually have similarities with. On Hinge, it is about much more than just physical attraction.
For now the top app is 🥇
I've got to hand the award to Tinder.
The main reason that I say this is that the user base is the largest of the three. You get the most out of the free version. Plus, it's honestly just the most simple out of the three.
Tinder also offers the only subscription under $10/month. It really only gives you unlimited likes, but the fact that it is so cheap makes it seem okay. The other apps want double or triple the amount that Tinder Plus charges.
All of the apps let you verify your profile, which helps to cut down on bots. There will always be fake accounts though, so you have to be careful not to waste your time or get scammed. It's not as prevalent as you may think, but it is a possibility.
Hive Dating App 🤔
One thing I'd love to see is some sort of dating app on Hive. I've always thought this would be huge. I don't know of a dating app that is full of people who are into crypto. Crypto is one of the main aspects of my life though. I'm tired of going out on dates with girls that don't know the first thing about Bitcoin. It makes it extremely difficult to explain what I do for a living. I'm sure some of them just think I'm unemployed and live off the government. Little do they know I've been grinding on here for 5+ years and have a bright future ahead of me.
Hive's community isn't massive in size yet and I have noticed that there aren't a ton of people here in the USA. Still yet, I think that getting the Hive dating app ready now for the future influx of users would be great. That's the stage that most apps are in the process of right now. Build it before they come instead of scrambling to get things together as we gain popularity.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who would appreciate a Hive dating app. Leave your thoughts about that in the comments below.
Good luck with your dating future!
Thanks for reading today. Let me know if you have any questions about any of these dating apps. I've been using all three for many years off and on. I know pretty much everything about them and can give you tips on how to stand out among the competition.

This tells me that I haven't been in the dating scene for too long I haven't used 2/3 of what you've mentioned. Well, I'm glad tho! 😂
I used Tinder years ago and went on 3 or 4 dates but that's it! When FB Dating was launched in mid-2019, I found the love of my life there. Still together now and happy with the kind of relationship we share. He's actually the one who brought me here in Hive so you could say Dating Apps are dear to me.
It can be dangerous at times so it must be used responsible and with utmost care.
I didn't mention Facebook Dating, but it too is a viabke option. I'd say it ranks #4 for me. I just don't like how it ignores your radius preference and shows you people hundreds of miles away. At least every feature on it is still free. Congrats to you having success with it. You are living proof that online dating can work out very well.
It can turn out well, you just have to try and see what's in store for you. I always believe that the more you date the more you discover what you truly want in a relationship. Sending good vibes and serenity to you, @daltono. Great weekend ahead! ☺️
I’m with you on that. I try to date as much as possible. There is a lot of what seems like wasted time, but it usually always comes with valuable lessons to prepare you for the next person.
Wishing the same for you 🤗
I had an article on my website about a dating site idea - that can be pretty much made into a dating app idea. It is based on Seeking Arrangements (Seeking), a sugar dating website which is very, very successful.
https://goddesseva.net/blog/a-dating-website-idea
That’s awesome. I had never visited your website before. I just did and read your article. Sounds like a good idea. I do think that the perfect dating app is still her to exist and somebody needs to act on that.
thank you! the dating game is where a lot of money can be made due to the fact that a lot of the services currently on the market have many downsides to them. this is why I also believe that the perfect dating website/app is still there to exist.
I’m surprised there isn’t a dating app that enabled OnlyFans pages to embedded on your profile. Kind of how Tinder let’s you connect your Instagram and display a portion of your feed on your dating profile.
Ah I was wondering if it ended. Glad it was an amicable end and not a brutal one. Question now: where does her hive account go?! Lol
Ah I’ve heard of some of these apps but never used them. I think plenty of fish was the last one I ever used years ago. Don’t know if that one still exists any longer. Dating these days is tough but I don’t think you’ll have a problem with it man! Just take your time.
She hadn't used her Hive account in almost 2 years. As much as I'm into this stuff, she never cared about it.
Oh god POF is nothing but trash and old ladies in my area. The scummy people at my old job were all on it. It may be different in other areas, but nobody younger is using it here.
I've met plenty of awesome people already. The main thing is to not let it distract me from my other goals.
Honestly I've never had to use one 😂😅 I met my lady in person😉😛 and I couldn't ask for any better than my little queen😎🍻
!PIZZA
You are lucky dude and I'm happy for you both. She's lucky to have somebody who thinks of her positively how you do.
Dating apps are like gambling because the companies have monetized it so well and keep you wanting to come back daily with a drip feed of potential partners. It can get out of control if you aren't careful. Meeting people in person is preferred and I do great with that actually. However I know many people who's worst nightmare is having to talk to a random person out in public. It would suck to think that online is the only option. I believe that maximizing your options increases the chance of finding the most ideal person. So that’s why I have the apps and also talk to a ton of random people at places like the store. Telling a joke is the easiest way to know if somebody Will get along with me. If they don’t laugh, it’s not going to work.
Good luck brother, there is nothing like a organic connection. My advice, dump the apps and hit a few events. Concert season just started, comedy clubs, even try the new speed dating in person trend. Apps are mostly for people looking for instant gratification. Unless your looking for something casual..... Happy hunting brother!
I’ve really not noticed much difference between meeting somebody in person versus online. They can both work or fail and I’ve done both a lot in the past so I’m not just talking out of my ass. The only thing I can say is that it’s much easier to convince somebody to hangout if you’ve already met them in person prior. Then yes there are those people who are just looking for attention or a quick fix and don’t know how to be serious about dating. It’s easy to skip over the bad apples if you’re on the mission of obtaining a life partner. Not everyone wants that though, some people enjoy the freedom of being single or just enjoying some short-term dating. The way to get online dating to work best is to not set certain expectations, because when you do you will almost always be disappointed.
I have been with my girl 7 years now. When I was dating on apps I found most of the females were shallow or looking for a fling. IDK what your dating intentions are, (long term, casual, fling, hookup) but hive should start a dating app so like minded people can communicate on a deeper level. People that have similar interest's generally have the best connections. I agree with you, you never know what your gonna find under ANY circumstance. If you put yourself in the best position to succeed, the rest follows.
Thats a long time, congrats to you for keeping it going. My longest was only 2.5 years. You'd probably hate dating apps even more now, because it's just gotten worse. A lot of girls expect to just have money sent to them for no reason. NEVER will I ever!
There’s still a lot of good that can come from it, but definitely loads of garbage and time wasters.
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to date somebody else that doesn’t like the things I like. Seeing as you’re with that one person so often, they better like to do what you like ya know. Crypto is a great mutual interest, but literally nobody I’ve met on dating apps even has a wallet yet or any idea why crypto is so important.
Exactly! Im a people person, so in person works for me. I cant do the "see me at my best only" mindset. (Most dating apps & social media) Too much room for a false sense of security. Expectations can be set high for no reason. I think me n my girl still have insane chemistry because of our honesty with each other about our flaws. We both came in with 0 expectations from each other.
I just jumped into crypto almost 2 years ago. So crypto is a new journey for us both, (Im blessed to have a great mentor @broncnutz in my life) just keep crushing it brother. Soon enough you will be in a lambo and the problem will be what female to keep lol.
Keep it going brother!
OG @broncnutz is a cool ass dude. You are destined for success.
thanks cuz
We are!
LoL HIVE dating Dapps, Low HP people will be sort out first 😂
It’ll be the first dating app that publicly displays how much money you have in your account. A gold digger’s dream.
Lmao
Lol now that is funny..
Hive Dating App 🔥 he he he 🤣 Social media is pretty much a dating app.
You're right it is, but oftentimes people aren't receptive to a flirtatious comment. If both people know dating is at stake, then it seems a lot more natural. If there was bug Hive meetups where I am in the USA, there'd be no need for dating apps because we could easily meet likeminded people in real life. Its crazy to think that some people have never had a relationship with anybody besides people they've met online. We are living in futuristic times and it all feels so normalized.
Through dating app we can meet many people and express our thoughts and opinions to many people. Today in the age of internet there are many dating apps where one can find their suitable and favorite partner . But in my eyes, a true relationship is someone who stands by you in your difficult times, never leaves you alone, and never backs down when you need him. If we should never leave any such relationship or any person we meet in life . I totally agree with you that sometimes friendship is more important than love. But with the help of dating app we can quickly find our favorite print and express our f devices with it. Sometimes there are many frauds scammed on the dating app due to which many people are worried. I wish you found your love again.
Dating apps are not perfect by any means. In the right hands, they can be useful.
I know what it's like to have somebody who who stands by you during difficult times, never leaves you, and won’t backs down when you need them. After you experience it, you will never settle for something less than that. At least you shouldn’t.
In the same way, a person who comes in handy in difficult times can never be forgotten. In my opinion it is up to the person whether they use an application for good or for bad.
for a moment I thought that Hinge was the Hive Dating app lol😅, I've never heard about it until now.
Bumble would be the perfect one to merge with Hive. I mean they literally themed the whole app around beehives.
These types of apps are becoming very popular nowadays and the number of people using them is also increasing. One of their advantages is that one can find friends new only within their city. I myself have not used any such app till date.
It's easy to become addicted to the rush of meeting somebody new. These apps make it incredibly easy to do. It's important to have self control in this situation.
😎✋ Daltono.. on the single scene.. lookin at dating apps..
ALL GOOD!
for sure Tinder is cool. the #1 thing u want is to find other ppl who are ready to date. No need to match up perfectly on hobbies or nothin like that..
have fun dating and just be ur cool self.
Everything’s going to be okay. Dads just need t make sure to hide their daughters 😂
to all the single girls out there..
I'm sorry to read about the end of your relationship, but it's awesome you two are still friends! Good luck getting back out there.
It is okay, thank you. We both have a lot to accomplish and I think we will succeed.
Hahaha
I became shocked when I saw you wrote Hive dating app. I was actually thinking that Hive has a dating app. Well, it will be cool to have personal experiences with people who are from different countries.
It would be interesting if something like that existed. Especially once there are many more users. Even now it could be useful.
Few times I thought about using some dating apps but so far I didn't.
They are always there if you ever get curious about trying them.
