Reflecting on the journey since April 13, 2024, when my dear Mum was admitted to Loh Guan Lye Hospital, the memories flood back in waves. It was a time of sleepless nights, filled with relentless Googling of medical terms, fervent prayers for miracles, and above all, the desperate hope that she wouldn't suffer. The days were tough, each one presenting its own set of challenges to navigate.

Now, with Mum's peaceful passing on May 6, 2024, at 1:41 am, those moments of crisis and the unwavering guidance from doctors including various advise from close friends/family still shine vividly in my mind.

Yet, amidst this tumultuous journey, one aspect remains a source of apprehension—the ubiquitous question, "How are you doing, Sylvia?"

Although asked with the kindest intentions, I find myself dreading it. What exactly do people hope to hear when they pose this question?

In search of clarity, I turn to my personal repository of responses, a collection of guidelines acquired through experience and reflection. Through this lens, I've come to understand that when others inquire about our well-being during times of loss, they're not merely seeking a superficial answer. Instead, they aim to extend genuine care and support, providing a space for us to share our emotions and burdens, should we choose to do so.

Gratitude fills my heart as I reflect on the support and strength that have buoyed us throughout this journey.

From the comforting presence of family to the compassionate guidance of medical professionals, friends of my late Mum and stories shared about how she has touched their lives, we've been surrounded by love and assistance every step of the way.
Thank you!

So, as I navigate the delicate balance of grief and gratitude, I approach each "How are you doing?" with a renewed perspective.

Whether it's an opportunity to share my feelings or simply express appreciation for the support received, I'm reminded that there's no right or wrong way to respond.

In the midst of loss, I find solace in the collective embrace of #LoveforDatoChanKitSin, #GuidingSpirit and #Gratitude — a beacon of hope illuminating the path forward. 🙏
