As much as we all want to earn money from Steem/DTube, it can be really insulting when you get poor engagement by people that barely read or watched the videos you posted even if you earned a substantial amount of money through upvotes. I know how that feels.
Yeah you are absolutely right. I honestly value comments as much if not more than upvotes because I feel as though all of my work (coming up with an idea, executing it, editing it, rendering it, main image, synopsis.. and so on) was not in vain. It validates me as a creator and I long for the human interaction. I am so sick of bots popping up in both my comments sections as well as others.
