DANGEROUS FOR BABIES
VICKS - NO ❌
OLBAS OIL - NO ❌
Because they contain
EUCALYPTUS OIL❗️
PEPPERMINT OIL ❗️
These should not be used on children under ten years of age!
Snuffle Babe (2%) contains more eucalyptus oil than Vicks (1.5%)
But not as much as the Olbas Oi (34.5%)
Both Vicks and Olbas state it’s safe to use over 2 years
Snuffle Babe state it is safe to use over 3 months
Going by these figures and using eucalyptus oil around babies, I would also use Snuffle Babe with caution.
ESSENTIAL OILS SHOULD NOT BE USED ON OR AROUND BABIES UNDER 3 MONTHS
To relieve congestion:
Strip baby off and sit in steamy room
Saline drops or breast milk squirted up nose
Babies over 6 months - diffuse Pine or Fir essential oil (place diffuser across the room, not right next to baby)!
Children over two years - make a vapour rub using a carrier oil (e.g fractionated coconut oil) and 1/2 drops of Fir or Pine essential oil (apply to pyjamas and soles of feet)
Here is a guide to which essential oils are safe to use around babies and children:
