Deep Dives Research Challenge
Thus far, each Deep Dives has been wide open and though we’ve hinted at guiding future research challenges, the unconstrained nature of the current format has produced some excellent results. Therefore, we’ve decided to keep the format the same for now and hope all you deep diving researchers out there continue doing exactly what you’ve been doing.
The FBI Vault
Online access to the FBI Vault was made available in 2011. At the time, there were approximately 2,000 government documents open to the general public. Seven years on, the Vault media archive has expanded to approximately 6,700 files. The website offers users the ability to search key words, topics and persons and also provides a built-in document viewer for convenience.
Included here are many new FBI files that have been released to the public but never added to this website; dozens of records previously posted on our site but removed as requests diminished; files from our previous FOIA Library, and new, previously unreleased files.
Appearing in the Vault electronic reading room collection are a plethora of familiar names and notable personalities.
Featuring searchable dossiers on characters as wide-ranging as Al Capone, Marilyn Monroe, Notorious B.I.G. and the 9/11 hijackers...
"The new website significantly increases the number of available FBI files, enhances the speed at which the files can be accessed, and contains a robust search capability," David Hardy, chief of the FBI's Records Management Division, said in a statement. "It reflects a strong commitment to build public trust and confidence through greater public access to FBI records."
The Vault also has an alphabetical index that can be quite useful to researchers. The FBI also maintains a Twitter page that posts up-to-date news and developments.

I hope this early entry will draw in a few new people as there is still a lot of time and the FBI's vault has a A LOT of files available. :-)
Alright. Here's my entry on cattle mutilation.
TL;DR - its natural, or its a government program to test for mad cow disease.

Should VPN be used for this?
VPNs are generally recommended, even for basic internet surfing. But if you're worried that the files on the FBI's vault are sensitive? no. They wouldn't put sensitive information up there.
Then, I don't see point in researching them. I went to see what can be found here and was disappointed. It's mostly official truth with not so much interesting information in my opinion. I will focus my research on Wikileaks because it seem much more interesting then official FBI files.
I think there's loads of interesting information on in the FBI files, but a lot of the juicy parts are through research behind the scenes of the documents presented to the public.
For example, all the stuff on the FBI investigating Malcolm X or MLK or the communist party.
Not saying there is no any interesting info here, but if they made it public for sure they put out info that will uncover much.
Odd that https://steemit.com/created/deepdives doesn't even show entries from the last contest... wth...
You noticed that as well? As soon as posts hit 7 days they disappear from the tag. I just tried searching the tag on eSteem and none of the top posts over the last 2-3 months show up. Very strange.
Here is my #deepdives entry, posted on time at 8pm EST ;)
