I remember when delivery people would knock on your door when they had a package for you, or if you weren't at home when they tried to deliver the package, they would take it back to the post office and leave you a slip letting you know that they had been at your house trying to deliver it. Then, they would give you the option of picking up the package from the post office yourself or having it re-delivered.
But these days, it seems that packages are not handled with any real care. I only hear a knock at the door every now and then when a package is being delivered. The regular mail service and Fed Ex usually have workers who just throw your package on your porch and walk away, leaving it susceptible to thieves, animals, rain and whatever else.
The only company that knocks on the door regularly when delivering my packages is UPS. And some of the workers will even wait until you open the door and get the package before they walk away. I'm not saying that UPS is the best delivery service ever, but I have had better experiences with their delivery behavior than with the others.

I agree. I lost a pair of shoes the postal service claims it was delivered, yet I was home when it was supposedly so. Got a refund fortunately.
It's good that at least you got refunded. They need to do much better with their deliveries.
