I hate it when people ask you for money for food or food so they can take their depression medication. It makes me feel depressed.
We're just people
I'm in one of the richest countires in the world
And there's so many people walking around with empty stomachs
The full bellied don't understand why I hate their England
They treat their people worse than cattle
A young man asked for food in exchange for his hat
He said he had to eat to take his depression medication
But everyone's got to eat
He's hungry tonight
There's too many hungry people
I can't help them
England has become what I know of the USA through media; cold
He said "We're just people"
If he starves or commits suicide
What is it to me?
We're just people
Indifference makes us powerless
Comfort keeps us chained
We're just people
Nothing more
We're just people

Damn man, I never thought such problems exists in first world countries!
Many people over here don't know these problems exist or how bad they really are; they just believe what the media tells them "Everything is perfect, look at that problem in that country over there! Don't look at your doorstep!"
Very powerful! I live in Ireland myself, in a town near Dublin City, and the immense amount of homeless and starving people in the streets there is diabolical. I really like this poem. It holds a lot of truth! Well done, and thank you for sharing!

Very sad. Here in the USA, there are far too many people worried about stupid, and trivial things to remember the principles of compassion. There are good people here, it just seems that as a whole, everything is about the dollar. Great writing. :)
