Deep Dark Woods
For this theme, we want to see all your pictures of trees. My pictures are from my trip to the Redwood Forest in California. The trees there are the tallest in the world and can reach heights of 350 feet. They also live to be over 500 years old and some of them have even lived to be 2000 years old. The rarely fall because they grow so close together and their roots are intertwined with each other strengthening them and keeping them standing tall.
This could be a fun theme for you to grab your camera and set out on a hike and go out and enjoy nature. I am looking forward to your submissions!
NOTE - We have had a lot of newcomers to the contest recently and some have not been reading the rules in their entirety. Only ONE submission per contest is allowed. Please do not enter more than once. If you see other people doing it, feel free to comment to them and inform them of the rules.

Water Works Winners
The Water Works Contest had so many amazing submissions in it, it was hard to choose the winners. Make sure to head over to the winners announcement post and congratulate the winners.
How is the Deranged Photography Contest set up?
The contest will be broken up into three different tiers. Each will have a different payout for the winners based on what tier you enter into. Here is a breakdown of the winning based on the tiers:
Place | Professional | Amateur | Beginner |
---|---|---|---|
1st | 1.25 SBD | 1 SBD | 1 SBD |
2nd | 0.75 SBD | 0.5 SBD | 0.5 SBD |
3rd | 0.5 SBD | 0.25 SBD | 0.25 SBD |
Each contest will be open for submissions for 5 days after the post is made and then closes at 0100 UTC (1800 MST) on the 5th day.
This will give me and any guest judges time to judge the submissions and create the post announcing the winners.
How to enter
When you enter a photo in the competition, you will state what tier you want to be judged in and locked in for the month at that level.
For example if you enter a photo, you drop the photo in the comment section, state what level of photographer you are, and then give a description of the photograph.
If you want to make your own post and reference the contest in your post, that would be awesome, just remember to post your picture in the comment section along with your post link. Who knows, you may get a visit and an upvote on your post as well as an upvote on the picture. Use the tag #derangedphotography to make it easy to find your posts.
NEW FOR MAY!!
There will be a prize pool of 5 SBD for each tier for the photo of the month. At after the final contest results are posted, I will create an additional post for everyone to cast their votes for their top photo of the month.
Each 1st place winner throughout the month will be tagged in the post as notification to drop their photo in comment section and the photo from each tier that receives the highest number of votes, number not value, will win the 5 SBD, plus they get all the rewards of the upvotes on their comment too, so win win for them.
I am hoping that this is incentive for everyone to continue to go out and shoot amazing photographs. You are all doing great.
Additional Notes
This contest is in its early stages and as time goes it things may need to be tweaked to benefit the group as a whole to make it a more fun experience for everyone.
Contestants can only win 1st or 2nd place once a week.
Only one submission per contest. Extra submissions will be ignored.
You can switch your tier ONE time per month, but only if you are moving up into a higher tier, for example if you are currently in the amateur tier, but you think that you have a photograph that you want to enter in the professional tier, you can state that you are changing your tier to professional. You will then be locked into the new tier for the remainder of the month. You are not able to move down to a lower tier, like going from amateur to the beginner tier.
If you do not state wish tier you want to be judged in for the month, I will leave a comment to remind you to do so, but if you don't respond, you will be assigned to a tier and locked in for that month.
Plagiarism will not be tolerated in any form. All submissions must be your own work. I will investigate every entry and one of the main sponsors is the @steemcleaners team, so if you are caught plagiarizing, not only will you be blacklisted from competing from any future contests, but you will be reported to Steemcleaners as well. It is not worth it to try and cheat, especially with the 3 tier set up where everyone has an equal shot of winning.
Deranged Photography Contests also has a discord channel that you can meet fellow photographers and keep up to date with all of the latest news that is going on with the contest. You can join at this link:

Now get out and start shooting
I hope you are all excited about this new contest. The contest themes will be different than what you are used to seeing on Steemit, and I am doing this to encourage everyone to get out and shoot new pictures. If you are a life long professional nature photographer, some of the themes may push you to try and learn something new. If you are just a beginner photographer, this is a great place to have fun shooting all sorts of exciting styles and learn in the process.

This shot was taken in the Rainforest of Dorrigo, a little town on the eastcoast of Australia. At this day we were walking in the clouds.
Wow thats an amazing shot for beginner level!
wow thanks @intrepidphotos, feels good to hear that from a real photographer. When I saw the results of the last contest I thought I start as a Beginner as they were really good. I´m not more than a hobby travel photographer.
Oh I love Dorrigo!! It's it SO beautiful up there!!! <3
We looked at land up there but decided it was going to be too cold to grow any sub-tropical trees! Love it though!!!
thanks @jayclar30. we love it up there as well. Bellingen seems to be a nice little town.
Yes and they have the best gelato at Bellingen! It's the only time we have it. It's a lot busier there though, more hip! ; )
Here is my entry. I am a beginner.
I took this photo in Ukraine, during my work visit.

Curation trail vote
That red is quite surreal.
Professional : I have always found forest quite spooky and scary, I think the further you go in it just gets darker and darker so I got sacred of that! I wanted to create some photographs to show the darkness so put a antler skull on one of the trees, I loved how it blended into the branches.
Well the photo is really creepy. Amazing how you managed to get so much dimension and layers on a black and white photo full of trees.
Thank you so much @gabyoraa its definitely creepy!
I only just noticed the antler skull after reading the caption. Nice.
Haha yeah it was an odd choice but I went with it!
I'll go for amateur ;)
Love this perspective looking up.
My happy, hippie little brother @maori enjoying the sun beams in the forest in central Oregon.

My Amatuer Entry - Angel Oak
The Angel oak is in Charleston SC, and is thought to be one of the oldest living organisms east of the Mississippi. 65 feet tall and 28 feet around, the gigantic trunk dwarfs anyone standing next to it! The longest branch reaches 187 feet out. More info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_Oak
I am going to be there in about two weeks. Hopefully I can get some cool shots of this tree. I am super excited about it. Awesome shot.
Nice. Thanks for the info. What a cool tree.

My entry (for the amateur tier) is a five shot HDR stack taken back on a cold November morning in Hereward Forest, Lincolnshire. There was still a little mist between the trees after a really cold night and the morning sun was just hitting it perfectly.

Yes. That's true.
Hi, this is my first time ! I'll go with beginner!
The picture was take in Croatia, during our vacation few years ago !
it's rather "we want to see all your pictures of trees" than "Deep Dark Woods" :)
Nice. Are they limestone cliffs?
From what I've read - yes - this is limestone. The picture was taken in Telaščica Nature Park.
What's most interesting, if you'll google "telascica cliffs" - you'll get some pictures form the exact same point as I did :)

Campamento La Sabana Anzoategui - Venezuela
Nivel principiante jajaj es que no soy fotógrafa profesional, pero me gusta tomar foto de todo lo que me llama la atención...Disfruto tomar foto de la expresión máxima de la naturaleza captando su magestuosidad
I grew up in the Black Forest in Germany, so I should have a good photo from there.. But I don't, somehow I have way less photos from Germany than from some other countries around the world! So here is a photo from the Daintree Rainforest in Queensland, Australia:
Impressive roots/trunk!
Love the fig trees in Qld. Makes me miss home ;-)
Greetings, this is my photograph of the Araguaney tree, here in Venezuela.
Level Begginner
Actually that was on the way for sunset photoshoot to my favorite place on Baltic Sea coast nearby Klaipeda, Lithuania. From the road I have to go trough the forest and this time was just perfect view of sun rays through the trees, that I cant resist and not to make few additional shots.
Just love this kind of lightning
Enjoy it!

Amateur tier.
Hi there, I'm submitting for the amateur photographer.
This is a tree that I found in Australia, the branches are so long, they are supported by the rocks on the ground. The tree isn't that tall and I found very interesting this strange way of growing.
Location: Western Australia.
Love these mallee trees.
Hi Wes, this is my first try, hope you like it:)

This was from my last holiday with my cousins in my hometown, it's amazing that we still have tall trees all around. On one of our evening walk the scene was awesome, I just added a little spice (My Cousin-sis in red) to it. Hope you like.

Nice. Love the rising ground level from left to right.
Thanks, I kind of started to like these diagonal compositions !
Huh? Trees? Uncle Wes, you're making me dig deep :D In the last couple of years, I've turned full nerd, I'm having a hard time remembering what a tree is...
Anyway, I had to open some old folders when my father had enough authority over me to say we're going to nature and I just had to obey. This one is from Slovakia, mountains called Mala Fatra. Year 2013. I remember my father cursing why poeople come up here with cars as I was taking pic with my superold Olympus camera (it was superold back then)

A beautiful theme even fits my photo, which I have uploaded today to the steemit. More information about the photo is inside the article.
This is my entry, I select the beginner level in this contest.
This is the areca tree in my garden. I'm sending this photo because I think it's good because it looks clear blue sky and clouds like cotton.
Hi. Beginner level. This is a Cedar tree, used to make wood, in the winter season it leaves its leaves until it looks like the one in the photograph.
As the concrete jungle slowly takes over, I just enjoy trees that have been spared during my drives/walks.
Good luck to everyone!
just waw
