Take it to the Streets

thealliance_thealliance_syndicates_pagebreak.png

For this theme, I want you to grab your camera and hit the streets and get some awesome street photography shots.

You might be asking what "Street Photography" is, well it is pretty much just candid photography. Nothing is really planned and you have no idea of the shots that you are going to get when you go out and you usually just react the the situation that you are given and sometimes you can be rewarded with some real gems.

Here are some tips for to get a better picture:

  1. Plan your route
  2. Travel light
  3. Blend in
  4. Change your angles
  5. Choose interesting subjects
  6. Shoot abstract
  7. Capture activity and movement

For more in-depth information on each of the tips you can go to the article TIPS FOR GREAT STREET PHOTOGRAPHY by Wayne Turner where I got the list from.

Paint the Sky contest winners

The Painted Sky contest had a lot of awesome entries and you should go check out the winner's post here and show them some love if you haven't.

How is the Deranged Photography Contest set up?

thealliance_thealliance_syndicates_pagebreak.png

The contest will be broken up into three different tiers. Each will have a different payout for the winners based on what tier you enter into. Here is a breakdown of the winning based on the tiers:

PlaceProfessionalAmateurBeginner
1st1.25 SBD1 SBD1 SBD
2nd0.75 SBD0.5 SBD0.5 SBD
3rd0.5 SBD0.25 SBD0.25 SBD

After the first month, I am hoping to set up a pool to award the top photographer in each category with a larger amount of SBD, where the number each 1st place winners will compete for the top photographer of the month for each tier.

Each contest will be open for submissions for 5 days after the post is made and then closes at 0100 UTC (1800 MST) on the 5th day.

This will give me and any guest judges time to judge the submissions and create the post announcing the winners.

How to enter

thealliance_thealliance_syndicates_pagebreak.png

When you enter a photo in the competition, you will state what tier you want to be judged in and locked in for the month at that level.

For example if you enter a photo, you drop the photo in the comment section, state what level of photographer you are, and then give a description of the photograph.

If you want to make your own post and reference the contest in your post, that would be awesome, just remember to post your picture in the comment section along with your post link. Who knows, you may get a visit and an upvote on your post as well as an upvote on the picture. Use the tag #derangedphotography to make it easy to find your posts.

Additional Notes

thealliance_thealliance_syndicates_pagebreak.png

This contest is in its early stages and as time goes it things may need to be tweaked to benefit the group as a whole to make it a more fun experience for everyone.

  • Contestants can only win 1st or 2nd place once a week.

  • Only one submission per contest. Extra submissions will be ignored.

  • You can switch your tier ONE time per month, but only if you are moving up into a higher tier, for example if you are currently in the amateur tier, but you think that you have a photograph that you want to enter in the professional tier, you can state that you are changing your tier to professional. You will then be locked into the new tier for the remainder of the month. You are not able to move down to a lower tier, like going from amateur to the beginner tier.

  • If you do not state wish tier you want to be judged in for the month, I will leave a comment to remind you to do so, but if you don't respond, you will be assigned to a tier and locked in for that month.

  • Plagiarism will not be tolerated in any form. All submissions must be your own work. I will investigate every entry and one of the main sponsors is the @steemcleaners team, so if you are caught plagiarizing, not only will you be blacklisted from competing from any future contests, but you will be reported to Steemcleaners as well. It is not worth it to try and cheat, especially with the 3 tier set up where everyone has an equal shot of winning.

Who are the amazing sponsors?

thealliance_thealliance_syndicates_pagebreak.png

The first and major sponsor being @czechglobalhosts. For those that don't know, @czechglobalhosts puts on two daily photo contests that are open to anyone to enter. His contests cover the entire globe so that anyone can enter. The days and themes are:

  • Australian Monday
  • Antarctica and World's Oceans Tuesday
  • African Wednesday
  • European Thursday
  • North American Friday
  • South American Saturday
  • Asian Sunday

On top of the themed daily continent contests, he hosts a daily travel contests specific to the beautiful country of the Czech Republic. So make sure to follow @czechglobalhosts and participate in his contests because he is offering two daily photography contests that you can enter to win.

The other sponsor's I have are @guiltyparties and the @steemcleaners team. @guiltyparties and everyone else behind @steemcleaners does so much for the platform as a whole, trying to reduce the spammers, phishing and plagiarism that goes on here. If you have any free slots for witness votes you should consider casting a vote for @guiltyparties, vote for @patrice, vote for @anyx, vote for @pfunk, and vote for @ arcange. Your votes for these great witnesses go a long way in ensuring the platform continues to thrive.

If you would like to become a sponsor and delegate SP to the Deranged Photography Contests you can do so by clicking on the following links:
50 SP, 100SP, 250SP, 500SP, 1000SP,5000SP.

Be sure to leave at least 50SP undelegated on your account. All delegations will go towards rewarding all of the participants of the contests by upvoting the entries. I am hoping to be able to reward everyone for taking part in my contests.

Now get out and start shooting

thealliance_thealliance_syndicates_pagebreak.png

I hope you are all excited about this new contest. The contest themes will be different than what you are used to seeing on Steemit, and I am doing this to encourage everyone to get out and shoot new pictures. If you are a life long professional nature photographer, some of the themes may push you to try and learn something new. If you are just a beginner photographer, this is a great place to have fun shooting all sorts of exciting styles and learn in the process.

I am looking forward to seeing all of your great submissions. Have fun taking those pictures!!

I love how you described "street photography" and offered tips for it. And thank you for the prize of the previous 2 contests! Oh how I adore this theme, can I enter 3 times, 1 in each tier? ;)

Here is my entry for this time, there are so many more waiting there. It was when I strolled a street in La Habana Vieja (Old Havana in Cuba), a lively and hectic district full of local charm. The doors of local homes are usually wide open, and portrait of Fidel Castro or Che Guevara is a common sight on the wall. The locals enjoy sitting outside, chatting or playing music. I got lots of invitations to sing and dance together with them when walking through the streets. It was great fun!

Havana Street

This is really nice @itchyfeetdonica.

I think you could maybe get more drama from the shot if you forced the blacks to be a bit punchier and raising the contrast, then adjusting mid tones and highlights to suit. making it punchier and a little gritty. Of course it's subjective, and just my taste, and in no way criticising. Hope that's cool? 🙂

Hey Martin! Thanks a lot for your great advice. =) I was actually thinking the same, but I only quickly adjusted it on my phone with Lightroom, and when I pushed the blacks, the face of Che got totally dark, so I gave up on that. I guess I need to use a multi-layer image editor like PS on my laptop to keep his face still brightened?

I only use LR myself, but on a large screen, maybe my eyes, but one of those things where size does matter, lol, like prints. 😊

Ok. So I had a really hard time picking mine out. I think the magic about street photography is perfect timing. This is one my favorite photos.

I was walking along a small "boring" street when I found this really interesting old lady just resting peacefully in front or her house, the shadow was beautiful and her face was perfectly lit. I stood there for a while waiting for that perfect timing, and out of nowhere, this girl just came out of her house, a n d . . . click.

It was single shot.

Yesss this is a GORGEOUS street photo! <3

I love this. She has some stories to tell for sure.

I am a beginner. This photo was taken in Italy several years ago. We went there for vacation. I kept taking pictures there, because I just love Italian architecture. It’s so funny, seems like people on the photo decided to wear matching colors:-)

I don't take a lot of street photography; its not really my forte. Unfortunately I am no doubt still down for the professional category from the last few comps ! This is a shot I took on a particularly wet and shiny night at Shibuya crossing in Tokyo, Japan. The crossing is one of the busiest in the world.

NewYork_1.jpg
The best way to explore a city is on foot. Even if New York is a pretty big city you should walk as much as you can through the streets. There are pretty places to discover everywhere and you will feel the real spirit of the city.

Amateur

Lunch in Rome
On a weekend visit to Rome a handful of years ago, I snapped this photo of a young couple pausing to eat their sandwiches under the columns of an ancient structure. They seemed so relaxed and happy to watch the busy world go by.

Entry: Professional

So just to make this clear @derangedvisions ...As I've already submitted my furred animals picture in the bucket "beginner" I can't take part now in e.g. "amateur" for this month? Cuz I'd had much better street pictures I've done during my travels soo I'd probably enter amateur this time...thx for answer and organizing!

Edit: Also I don't really care about the whole month ladder, cuz I'm not going to take part always. So I guess I can enter amateur this time or?

This is actually a very good question. I will allow you to change tiers only if it is for a higher tier, like in your case how you are wanting to go from the beginner to amateur tier, but you will be locked into the higher tier for the remainder of the month once you make that change. My goal was to make this as fair as possible and I appreciate that you know that your street photography will be above the beginner level.

I will also update the rules to reflect the new changes as well.

Hahh well thanks for you answer but in the meantime I've realized that my pictures are 10 times worse than I've remembered them hahaha :D so I'm staying in beginner league :D

Aw man, I guess I have to enter the - no doubt highly competitive - Professional category!

DSCF9872.jpg

I loved exploring Seattle, but for all the sights this one stands out most for me. For me this is what Street Photography is, it's not about epic scenery or crazy set-ups. It's the small moments that make you want to capture an otherwise ordinary scene. I'm not quite sure what was up with the atmospheric pressure, but just across the street we saw a rainbow coming straight out of this guys backpack.

Come to think of it I feel the ONLY possible explaination is that he is in fact a Leprechaun. Either we've been severely mislead or this guy is just an American Leprechaun with a backpack instead of a pot of gold.

Woah, what a great coincidence. You met a leprechaun! hahahaha

You missed the pot of gold beside him 😁
It even looks like magical and the building is being transformed or something like a change is happening inside.

Hi ~ I would like to enter amateur category as I am not beginner but I am not a professional photographer. Photography is my hobby.

This photo was taken at Tamsui district in Taiwan. This is a street performer singing alone the river side in the late afternoon. I remember he was singing country style English song at that time, he was really good. the Sunset, the city, the river and his performance makes you forgot about and time and the busy city life style. It looks like he was shouting at the sky and release all his emotion and the pressure. He is singing with his life and it was truly amazing feeling.

Hello @derangedvisions this is my entry for Deranged Photography Contest - Take it to the Streets.

The Repairman

Sony A77
1/1000 seg
f/2,8
ISO 250
This photo was taken in the Barranquilla Downtown in Colombia. This man is able to repair almost any appliance that you take to his street workshop, and he will always have a smile to give you.

I decided to enter the steemit community because I think my photographic work will be better valued here than in my own country. Street photography is one of the branches of photography for which I feel more attracted and also to which I dedicate more time lately.

I am an amateur photographer because nobody pays for my work, so today I will participate in this category: Amateur Photographer. Greetings and thank you so much.

here is my entry..

https://steemit.com/derangedphotography/@ashikstd/the-burden

and here is the photo that i used in this post.
image.png

Street photography, Las Vegas style. Shot at the Billagio, during the fountain show. The abstracty look is intentional and achieved by zooming the lens during a 1-second exposure. (Professional)

_Q1A2239.jpg

lol, this is awesome. I was there a few weeks ago and this is how I felt when I was watching the fountains at the Bellagio. I love the abstract.

Thanks @derangedvisions! Nice! Yeah, it's easy to get that kind of vision there... I had it bad the night before this was shot.

Frankfurt.jpg

Im going with this one

im still a Amateur... and this shot is a real amateur shot... but its a special one too

You can see my old Homecity from the older part you look into the modern Skyscraper part and you can see the "Commerzbank Tower" in Frankfurt on a cloudy night. This shot is an Smartphone shot. Love this angle from the old part into the future...

Hope you enjoy this shot.. i know it isnt the best quality ... i could UPGRADE it per software but the it will lose the special moment...

Im waiting for your Feedback.. Feel free to hit the reply button ;)

Extraordinary photo! I like it wery much.

Hello, here my entry for streetphotography challenge :) I'm entering in the beginner's pool and tiny text to the picture can be found in the post itself (https://steemit.com/streetphotography/@matkodurko/pay-attention-sir-she-can-kill-you-if-i-want-pic-of-the-day-18)

Best of luck to all participants!

Alex James - Sansom Photography-11.jpg
Even after 8 years it seems weird to say it but I guess I am a professional!
This shot was taken in Oxford, the light was so amazing and the architecture was stunning. The couple walking across the road with the couple walking towards them hand in hand worked so well, completely unposed and what I love about street photography!

Lovers Bridge, Tamsui (Taipei, Taiwan). I captured this couple walking across the bridge during sunset, using a 16mm wide angle lens was the best way to capture the symmetry and scale of the bridge!

Nice contest, Hear I give my picture in professional level.

On going Switzerland trip I take this photo using my Canon camera.

I like this original snow fall, I enjoyed a lot.

Hear is my pic

Hi it's my amateur entry to the contest. I shoot this photo on the little street in Kraków city (Kazimierz).
There's a little girl running across the street and a truck that is crossing her through the street. Nice difference between them, like "david and goliath".

DSC_3920.jpg

Hi, I enter for the Beginner level.
DSC00718.JPG
I took this photo when I visited the Acropolis Museum in Athens. Visitors will go through these folding doors to enter/leave the museum during opening hours. When two ladies were passing by, it looked like they are walking into a picture frame :)

This is a cool shot. The framing and timing are great.

Hi, here is my entry in the Amateur contest. :)
The photo was taken in Novi Sad, Serbia and it presents an entrance to a former club near Danube river. The helicopter is something which remained there and it is quite interesting.

20160506_130815-1.jpg

Here is my entry for the amateur contest. This picture was taken close to Venice Beach, Los Angeles, unintentionally while driving by. For me it shows basically the negative side effects of capitalism on the american society.

DSCF6554.jpg

DSC02189.jpeg
Although I feel so much like a beginner, I'll go for the amateur category to challenge myself ;)

the question is, is this street photography? IMG_9431s.jpg
if you think it is not, i will change it.

This is an awesome shot. Great example of street photography.

I'd like to enter in the professional category, and have coincidentally started sharing more of my street photography the past week.

One of my favourite pictures 'from the streets' thus far is the one I'm entering today. The sudden simultaneous movement of the hands in front of these teenage boys' eyes, covering against the sun, a real 'decisive moment' captured, one second before or later and I would have had a very different shot :-)

Taken in my hometown Rotterdam, close to where I lived - I love that for street photography you can be literally anywhere - close to home or far far away.

just dropping by this place here at Mc Arthur Park, Palo Leyte, Philippines

This is my entry to this category. I want to say Beginner but I want to push myself to Amateur. This man was taken in front of our municipal hall. I was there sitting, waiting and taking photos when in came this colorful man. I saw the ice cream vendor parked near me and I thought of waiting for the man to be next to the vendor then took the photo.

I am really starting to enjoy this. I am not sure why I never bothered to before and let my friends take all the picutes ... Well here is my photograph of the neighbourhood market... it is a street that transforms into a Market place in the mornings and is cleared up by afternoon

IMG_E2581.jpg
And if you would like to know a little bit more of this market, it's right here 😊

I have not been to any country more photogenic than Cuba and this street in Habana Vieja was just another fantastic photo motive.
01-jpp-20151222.jpg

Here's my entry. I'll take a chance and place myself in the professional tier for this months contest.
Taken at the busy Goose Fair, Nottingham UK.

Fantastic competition, wished I had noticed this one sooner. I might even make an entry post myself - although you need to add an extra category just for me "Beyond Hope" 🤪

Thanks for the contest. Here is my entry:

Isfahan is famous for it's historical places. One of them is Siosepol bridge. The architecture it self is enough to convince you to take a photo, and when people are in the right place, it makes a composition that you can't ignore.

tier: professional

https://steemit.com/derangedphotography/@sina-adventure/love-tunnel

We just came back from the Venezuelan Andes and while in the city getting some provitions we made some "street photography",so this one is just getting out of the oven. Walking thru the "Mercado Principal de Mérida" we found many places like this one, even when there is diferent separate sections with their own topics. All those are little shops/kiosks that sells pretty much whatever you look for and pretty much the all of them sells the same thing, most of the places are fully filled with stuffs from groceries, local beverages, local sweets, handcraft stuffs, musical instruments, toys, hats... The mos interesting fact is that everything is handmade by local artisans.

Street photography is not my strong suit.
Actually it has been a lot of years since I last practiced on this fascinating kind of photography. I meant to shot something new but the last few days that the contest stands, I didn’t had the opportunity to do so.
Nevertheless I like this contest and I wanted to take part in it so I dug up this shot from a trip on the island of Kos in Greece, a few years ago. I am not very happy with the framing but it all happened in a split of a second and I am glad I even managed to capture the scene.

Beep! Beep! This humvee will be patrolling by and assisting new veterans, retirees, and military members here on Steem. @shadow3scalpel will help by upvoting posts from a list of members maintained by @chairborne and responding to any questions replied to this comment.
