News Before Theme is Announced
I just want to start off by saying that we have had an amazing first two weeks of the competition. There have been so many awesome entries. All of you are super talented and I am looking forward to seeing more of your work as the Deranged Photography Contest grows. There are some rule additions and exciting news for this month so be sure to check the Additional Notes section.
First off, everyone's tier has been reset, so you are free to pick your tiers again. Just be mindful that if you are picking a tier that is way lower than what you should be, it is unfair for the rest of the competitors and I will move you up into the next tier for the remainder of the month. Be sure to state which tier you wish to be judged in for the month. If you do not, I will place you in a tier or carry your choice forward from the previous month.
Once again, I want to thank everyone for participating and helping to make this vision of mine grow. You are all awesome.
Water Works
This contest's theme is Water Works. Anything that has to do with water will be accepted, as long as there is water in the photo. This is a pretty broad topic, so don't get stuck on the obvious choices like waterfalls, lakes, rivers and oceans. There are so many different options for creativity with this one.
This photo by our guest judge @gabyoraa is a great example of using water to make an amazing photograph even better.
Photo taken by @gabyoraa
New Life contest winners
The New Life contest had a lot of awesome entries and you should go check out the winner's post here and show them some love if you haven't.
How is the Deranged Photography Contest set up?
The contest will be broken up into three different tiers. Each will have a different payout for the winners based on what tier you enter into. Here is a breakdown of the winning based on the tiers:
Place | Professional | Amateur | Beginner |
---|---|---|---|
1st | 1.25 SBD | 1 SBD | 1 SBD |
2nd | 0.75 SBD | 0.5 SBD | 0.5 SBD |
3rd | 0.5 SBD | 0.25 SBD | 0.25 SBD |
Each contest will be open for submissions for 5 days after the post is made and then closes at 0100 UTC (1800 MST) on the 5th day.
This will give me and any guest judges time to judge the submissions and create the post announcing the winners.
How to enter
When you enter a photo in the competition, you will state what tier you want to be judged in and locked in for the month at that level.
For example if you enter a photo, you drop the photo in the comment section, state what level of photographer you are, and then give a description of the photograph.
If you want to make your own post and reference the contest in your post, that would be awesome, just remember to post your picture in the comment section along with your post link. Who knows, you may get a visit and an upvote on your post as well as an upvote on the picture. Use the tag #derangedphotography to make it easy to find your posts.
NEW FOR MAY!!
There will be a prize pool of 5 SBD for each tier for the photo of the month. At after the final contest results are posted, I will create an additional post for everyone to cast their votes for their top photo of the month.
Each 1st place winner throughout the month will be tagged in the post as notification to drop their photo in comment section and the photo from each tier that receives the highest number of votes, number not value, will win the 5 SBD, plus they get all the rewards of the upvotes on their comment too, so win win for them.
I am hoping that this is incentive for everyone to continue to go out and shoot amazing photographs. You are all doing great.
Additional Notes
This contest is in its early stages and as time goes it things may need to be tweaked to benefit the group as a whole to make it a more fun experience for everyone.
Contestants can only win 1st or 2nd place once a week.
Only one submission per contest. Extra submissions will be ignored.
You can switch your tier ONE time per month, but only if you are moving up into a higher tier, for example if you are currently in the amateur tier, but you think that you have a photograph that you want to enter in the professional tier, you can state that you are changing your tier to professional. You will then be locked into the new tier for the remainder of the month. You are not able to move down to a lower tier, like going from amateur to the beginner tier.
If you do not state wish tier you want to be judged in for the month, I will leave a comment to remind you to do so, but if you don't respond, you will be assigned to a tier and locked in for that month.
Plagiarism will not be tolerated in any form. All submissions must be your own work. I will investigate every entry and one of the main sponsors is the @steemcleaners team, so if you are caught plagiarizing, not only will you be blacklisted from competing from any future contests, but you will be reported to Steemcleaners as well. It is not worth it to try and cheat, especially with the 3 tier set up where everyone has an equal shot of winning.
Deranged Photography Contests also has a discord channel that you can meet fellow photographers and keep up to date with all of the latest news that is going on with the contest. You can join at this link:
Who are the amazing sponsors?
The first sponsor is @czechglobalhosts. For those that don't know, @czechglobalhosts puts on two daily photo contests that are open to anyone to enter. His contests cover the entire globe so that anyone can enter. The days and themes are:
- Australian Monday
- Antarctica and World's Oceans Tuesday
- African Wednesday
- European Thursday
- North American Friday
- South American Saturday
- Asian Sunday
On top of the themed daily continent contests, he hosts a daily travel contests specific to the beautiful country of the Czech Republic. So make sure to follow @czechglobalhosts and participate in his contests because he is offering two daily photography contests that you can enter to win.
The other sponsor's I have are @guiltyparties and the @steemcleaners team. @guiltyparties and everyone else behind @steemcleaners does so much for the platform as a whole, trying to reduce the spammers, phishing and plagiarism that goes on here. If you have any free slots for witness votes you should consider casting a vote for @guiltyparties, vote for @patrice, vote for @anyx, vote for @pfunk, and vote for @ arcange. Your votes for these great witnesses go a long way in ensuring the platform continues to thrive.
If you would like to become a sponsor and delegate SP to the Deranged Photography Contests you can do so by clicking on the following links:
50 SP, 100SP, 250SP, 500SP, 1000SP,5000SP.
Be sure to leave at least 50SP undelegated on your account. All delegations will go towards rewarding all of the participants of the contests by upvoting the entries. I am hoping to be able to reward everyone for taking part in my contests.
Now get out and start shooting
I hope you are all excited about this new contest. The contest themes will be different than what you are used to seeing on Steemit, and I am doing this to encourage everyone to get out and shoot new pictures. If you are a life long professional nature photographer, some of the themes may push you to try and learn something new. If you are just a beginner photographer, this is a great place to have fun shooting all sorts of exciting styles and learn in the process.
Photo taken by me @derangedvisions
I am looking forward to seeing all of your great submissions. Have fun taking those pictures!!
There is a post cooking about this shots but we feel like gotta throw this one here haha
Let's go again, Amateur Tier.
Not the best quality photo BUT it's really cool. We took this one in Choroni, Venezuela, with a GoPro Hero 3+ inside an improvised DIY GoDome, the post we're making about this is about the behind the scenes of the dome that it's pretty hilarious.
This is hilarious. I love that face you are making as you are doing your cannon ball into the water.
Oh my goodness this is gold. Haha!
I'm always photo bombing her anyways hahaha
Every time I scroll past this it makes me laugh.
This is hilarious!!!! Love your face
Hahaha, cool shot!
PRO tier
Shot last Sunday at Curonian Gulf, Lithuania. Pastel colors of another calm sunset with almost mirror water. Found some nice foreground and combined with clouds frame.
Also white feather as additional point of interest
Enjoy it!
https://steemit.com/photofeed/@axeman/white-feather
Amazing shot. It is a pleasure to have you participating. I have always loved the colors in your photography.
Actually have just discovered your contests, thnx to Tomas he posted oin his blog :) So you can count on me from now on :)
Awesome. I have been following your work on Tomas' contests for a while.
Great shot @axeman!
You are definitely a master in landscape photography :)
I think he’s a master in other types of photography too. =)
That feather there gives it a special touch.
This is my entry to the contest: Water Works by @derangedvisions
Water Drops: Art Fusion
Sony A77
f/16; 1/250; ISO 100
Fflash built in the camera
This picture is the result of merging the cartoon "Edgar Allan Poe" by the great Peruvian cartoonist Walter Toscano and my ability to take high-speed photos of water drops.
This photo is not a montage, the result was obtained at the time of the shot.
I want to participate in this contest in the Professional category.
Thank you very much to @derangedvisions for giving me the opportunity to show my photographic work.
Wow, this is amazing! Beautiful work. I like Walter Toscano's caricatures! =)
Thank you so much. Walter is a good friend of mine, he is an excellent caricaturist.
Great photo, but how can I see it full size?
Check out my article Steemit Image Guide: Click To Enlarge Image - The Simplest Way - For Steemit Beginners, Amateur Photographers and Coding Noobs to see how easy it is to make this possible.
Im not a bot, just a guy who loves good photos.
Thank you so much my fiend. Right away I'll see that guide.
Excellent picture @juancarlos1175!
Thank you so much my friend.
This is such a creative way to capture the water droplets. I I have tried to do this before, but when I did, I had cheap little flashes. Now that I have some better studio lights, I think I need to give it another shot. It it just water or did you have a mixture of oil with and colors as well?
I use only water and pastry dyes. When I can I'll show you all the montage done to make this kind of photos.
If you could put together a post with a video and pictures explaining your set up and process of this I am sure it would be well received by the Steemit community.
Okay, some time ago I did a tutorial, but I can not find that material. I'll make a new one for Steemit.
Yes please do!!! I would love to see that. I've never done photos like this. It looks like so much fun
Pronto, pronto. Jejejejejeje
Hey @derangedvisions, @gabyoraa and fellow Steemians, here's my entry: no it's not pouring a drink, it's a water stream. :) I was hiking in the Picos de Europa mountains of Northern Spain, and I shot this photo when standing on a slippery rock in the middle of a crystal clear creek.
I don't think I could turn to a professional photographer within a week, so I'm still quintessentially Amateur. ;)
The lighting makes this looks so cool. It is like the water is flowing over gold.
I thought the same thing. Water over gold.
Haha, I wish I had some liquid gold!
Hi here is my first photo in this interesting competition. I got her during the training for the World Cup in Prague Troja. I still think of myself as an amateur, and it probably will stay forever.
Action shots like these are so cool. I have done action photography for some sporting events and it is always so fun because you are always moving and having to adjust things in your camera. Great shot.
Going to be hard to judge this one as the entries are so varied. There already seems a few water droplet shots so I am going with this crystalline pattern in a frozen puddle in Balsta, Sweden. I guess I will go pro for another month?
Image taken by and remains the Copyright of Robert Downie - http://www.robertdowniephotography.com
Amazing shot. Are those leaves frozen underneath the layer of ice? or is it a reflection of some sorts? There are so many creative ways this picture could go.
Its a thin frozen layer on top of a liquid puddle of water. The leaves are at the bottom of the puddle.
Would have loved to have seen this fullscreen bro. Looks cool!!!
I will put a full post up of it one day.
Cool, look fwd to that. Please fire me a link in case I miss it bro. 😉
This is so beautiful! I love the color and the texture.
Thanks
This is my entry to the contest
in Professional.
Hope I made my entry correct?
Awesome shot. That lighting is perfect.
I'm glad you like it... I think the model makes this photo goodlooking, not me :) Everybody could make this shot if they had such young and beautiful model in their studio :)
This is awesome. Love the light in this.
Thank you :)
Beautiful image and I am not talking about the model :)
My second entry
Feel the deep dark waters in this nature pattern
This is such an interesting photo. At first it doesn't even look like water. It looks like it could be a macro shot of skin or something. The designs that the water makes with the light and shadows are pretty amazing. Great shot.
I just noticed that this was a second entry in this contest from you. I will only be judging the first entry. That you submitted since I only one entry per participant is allowed.
Yes, I understand. I saw the rules after this post but don't worry. I think my first entry is good :) But anycase thank you for warm words about this picture. I really was surprised when I saw it. I had the same feelings that the water is not the water :)
well i have many photos of rivers, lakes, seas... i had at least 3 of them from today, but it would be to mainstream for this topic :) so here is my entry for Water Works
Awesome. It is making me thirsty. Good thing it is #whiskeywednesday
Love the colors in this. Nice!
thanks. this is from "fun ideas on a budget" series :D
Nothing like a good old frozen waterfall! Though I feel there could be something tweaked to make it better...
Awesome shot. I bet it was cold getting that overspray. One thing that could be tweaked on this is you could add some people in kayaks going over the edge and have a massive great white shark at the bottom with its mouth open waiting to catch them as they fall into its mouth. Or some other sea monsters. That would be pretty cool.
Hahaha! That would be awesome! Let me see...
Wow! Powerful. And I know how you feel, waterfalls are tricky to edit when finding the sweet spot on the highlights and the mids.
Here is my Amateur entry, titled "Smoke on the Water"
View the full-res here
It was a frigid morning on Lake Huron, but I couldn't pass up the photo opp with the fog on the water, cool cloud line looking like mountains in the distance, ice on the shoreline and rising sun to highlight it all!
If interested, the rest of the pics from this set can be seen in high quality here - https://www.flickr.com/photos/8599758@N03/albums/72157690361367681
Awesome. Such a nice peaceful sunrise. We have a canal that gets fog on it some mornings and I have always wanted to go out and shoot it when there is fog, but it is always so cold and there is no telling when there will be fog.
Tier - Amateur
This is the Oceanário de Lisboa (Lisbon Oceanarium) - a work dedicated to water if ever there was one. The Oceanarium's massive main tank and four smaller "climate zones" are home to over four hundred species of marine life including sharks, barracudas and a rare sunfish.
click on the image to view full screen
Although this photo has the characteristic "smooth water" look of a long exposure, the shutter speed was actually 1/160s - the water in the artificial lake around the Oceanarium was incredibly calm and reflected the sky like a perfect mirror.
This framing is awesome and everything is perfectly balanced. Such an awesome shot.
Thanks :-)
This Pic is made in SWISS last Autumn...
I had to crawl through some bushes to get this magical place completly in front of my lense. This shot is made with my D3000 with an standard objective.
When did this shot i learned sometimes you have to beat the nature to get to the magical places... And im happy i did...
I went into the Amateur Contest again...
I remember you showing me either this one or a similar shot. Great job. The reflections on the water are awesome.
i was really happy there wasnt for about 2-3 min no wind, so i had the chance for this great shot
Thank you DV for facilitating this here is a picture of a mangrove sanctuary In Cebu.
I am at a beginner level but want to improve
Are there any fish in there? Good shot.
Just a couple of minnows and an occasional bigger fish
oh snap, we need to get a whale to drop in then.
Amateur.
Munich, Germany, is home to an unusually placed thriving surf culture. In the middle of a landlocked city is a standing river-wave known as the Eisbachwelle or Ice Creek Wave. You can find out more on my blog post Inner City Surfers of Summer and Snow and you can find various posts about the wave on my blog.
When I first saw this picture, I thought it was an action shot from a movie or something. This is such a cool photo.
Cheers mate! I took this on the first time I ever went here and have been back too many times to try and recreate it to no avail. Though European summer is back so I have ample opportunity over the next few months.
Here is my entry in Amateur Tier:
Hot day in Shanghai
Such a fun shot. We have places like this here that open during the summer months.
I found it in my archives. I visited Shanghai in May 2011 and it was a very hot week.
hi @derangedvisions in #derangedphotography
i tried entry level propesional.
this photo I took at the dock of the island bunta district aceh besar indonesia. enjoy the sunset while fishing in the ocean. fishing from the top of the dock on the island of bunta
photo using lenovo k900 |iso62||f1,8||4,02mm||1/1667s|
Amazing sunset. I bet the fishing is great there off the beach.
Thank you for @derangedvisons
When you said the theme is Water Works, I had to include my son who is the water baby. He trains quite hard hoping to be a national swimmer. You don't see him but he just pushed off the wall and is buried under all those bubbles.
I love this shot. The splash is in a great spot in the frame and then the sign with the sun behind it looks so awesome and the sun gives some really cool colors to the water.
Wow! Wes, you should be so happy!
What a collection of amazing pictures!
The contest rocks :)
My entry is a new edit of an older but beloved picture.
It is from a place called Fonisa or Neraida Waterfalls that I found hidden in the west part of the island of Kythira, in Greece.
If you want to know more about it, I have posted a story.
This is an amazing shot. That water is so clear and I love how you made the waterfall just turn to a silky mist. The lush green is awesome.
Beep! Beep! @shadow3scalpel at your service. I am here to assist all military members on Steemit. This HumVee will be scouting posts from a list of Veterans that is maintained by @chairborne. If you are a Veteran and new to Steemit, and you have questions or want to join the Veterans community, reply to this comment. We got your six, unless you are in the rear with the gear. Ooh-Rah!

Hello, this is my entry for the contest!
This beautiful lagoon of glacial origin, I photograph it in my visit to the lagoons in Gavidia, Merida, Venezuela. It is a remote and very beautiful place, at more than 3000 meters above sea level.
here is my entry as an amateur photographer.
i've shared a post and here is the link

thanks.
Let's have fun with me
Following water picture I given
Here nothing is dry @derangedvisions, Picture i taken with smartphone Xioumi Note4 without any editings.
Warm greetings from Indonesia
Over-Under water shot taken on the east shore of Lake Tahoe. An underwater housing was of course used. My phone can connect via bluetooth to my camera and give me a view of what I'm I'm shooting so I don't have to stick my head in the cold water :)
edit: pro please
I thought getting wet was part of the fun?
Not in that cold water!!! My hands getting wet was enough fun...
Very interesting shot. It is cool to see a shot from below the water where it makes you think it is warm, but then to see the snow in the top portion of the picture is pretty cool. Great job.
Thank you @derangedvisions! Yeah, I'm looking forward to summer when these types of shots are a lot easier. I remember my hands hurt for this one.
Oh that looks crazy cold hahaha. I love this shot from below.
Thanks @gabyoraa! Yes, Things are warming up fast here, looking forward to getting more of these over under shots soon... Have a great day!
Here is my entry! He wasn't as excited to play in the rain as I was. Haha.
I will stay in the Pro category please. :)
Reminded me of "I know what you did last summer" haha
lol, this is awesome! That was such an amazing movie.
Awesome image!
It reminds me the era of great photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson :)
This is such a cool portrait. He looks like he could be a villain in a movie.
Great theme, here is my entry :) Not your typical water photo but hopefully it counts :) I took this shot on the terrace of our Mexican apartment after rain.
Based on our previous conversation, I am upgrading and applying for the amateur category. If you feel like beginner was more suitable for me though, feel free to put me back in there :D
Great shot. I think you are in the right tier and will push yourself towards improving for professional.
I imagine I'm beginner level. This is the Renaissance Center with Canada just across the Detroit river. I took this with my cell phone while working on a rooftop in Downtown Detroit.
Nice shot. It's great to see the SSG community coming out of the forge to participate. Welcome my bearded brother.
Hello there DV,
I'm back!
Here is my official entry:

@eaglespirit
Nice. We have a waterfall that freezes over every winter about 20 mins away from me. I usually go out and get pictures like this also.
thanks, my photograph class said fill the screen and see what comes out. i did this long before the class but figured i'd share it. water is water. let me see yours. :)
I don't have any frozen water fall pictures right now. The last time I was out, I made a video.

Awesome shot. I have always wanted to do whitewater kayaking because it looks like such a huge adrenaline rush. This is great.
It is great fun! Very physically demanding, as there isn't a single muscle not used, so it's great exercise. I should have kept it up. It's been many years since I've been in there doing it myself, but it's very entertining on a hot sunny afternoon to sit on the sloping river banks watching stunt performers and some cool slalom moves. Absolutely fab for photography for anyone with access to a white water course. 😉
Each morning I walk past dew covered flowers, I pause as often as I can remember to take pictures with my galaxy 6.
This is my amateur submission. I zoomed in on this image quite a bit. In real life the droplets were tiny.
I learned about this contest because of PYPT.
Nice shot. You can't go wrong with flowers with some droplets on them. Especially cool looking flowers like this.
I can't remember the name, but I feel like it's an invasive species.
It's all over the hillside here in Oregon, some of them have bloomed with red and orange.
Storm in Professional
This photo was made on Cyprus during winter storm. The ship on horizon is damaged and crashed near beach several years ago.
Wow, this lighting is great. I like the mist of the waves in the glow of the sun. This is a great capture of the power of the sea.
Amateur level. This is a shot I took on a recent fly fishing trip to the N. Georgia mountains. I used it in a recent blog.
Great shot. I still have yet to learn how to go fly fishing. I would be too scared to get the fly stuck in my face or something.
This is my entry
Here are the settings I used to take this photo
I am gonna let you decide where to place me, as I feel I am a little better than an amateur as I do occassional get paid to do location portraits, but I don't feel like I am 100% on the professional level as I know I still have a lot to learn.
Great shot. I think you will do well in the amateur tier. There is a lot of competition in there that will push you to test your abilities. It is nice to have you on board in the competition.
I am limited on internet right now can't wait for comcast to get us hooked up, but my son is about to graduate and the curriculum I pay for monthly I won't have the expense in 16 days any longer, so that will free up money to pay for the extra hot spot date I am going to be using. I get 10GB now included with my plan, But I use way more data than that each month. It has been hard to be limited on my internet connection.
Oh and not I am not a time traveler, When I set up this camera I put the wrong year in. Didn't notice it for months, and only did after a follower pointed it out. I am not 100% sure but I may have shared this in a post last year. So if I plagiarized myself it was unintentional. I have an obsession with water shots I have thousands upon thousands of water shots.
Here is my entry. I tried :) Placing in at beginners.
Nice shot. The edit looks good.
I wasn't sure about anything! I have to say, I think you make me nervous as well as others that are posting their pictures. Such great talent!

I am glad you love it, Gaby! Thank you!
Water is such a broad topic, you certainly didn't give me an easy time deciding on a photo. In the end, I decided to go with this one that I captured at a waterfall in Australia.
I heard you talking about this contest on last Thursday's Steemit Ramble, and just had to check it out. I'll try to stop back and see some of the entries.

Dear Sir @derangedvisions
First of all, thanks for posting so beautiful, Sir @derangedvisions , photography is an art. We know that the demand for photography in this world is increasing, basically a photographer said a natural scene and said beauty of one man beautifully through photography, we all like beautiful pictures,
Seeing your picture, you might expect a photographer in the future to look at the beauty of nature and learn about nature, in one word it will make you aware of the whole world.
I hope you are in your work.
Get out of here with this comment. You have made this comment over and over on many people's blogs. You are just spamming for votes.
