Paint the Sky!
Welcome to the second theme of the Deranged Photography Contests. For this one, I want you to have captured anything dealing with the amazing colors of the sky, from the sunrise to the sunset and anything in between, as long as it is colorful.
This should be a fun one that everyone should be able to get some amazing shots. I am looking forward to seeing your shots of the sky from all over the world.
If you have already participated in the Furred Animal Contest from Wednesday, you do not need to say what tier you are entering in. I already have you locked in that tier for the month. Just let us know where you where in the world when you got your picture.
Please read the entire post for a full understanding of the rules and how the contest is set up. This photography contest is different than what you may be used to.
How is the Deranged Photography Contest set up?
The contest will be broken up into three different tiers. Each will have a different payout for the winners based on what tier you enter into. Here is a breakdown of the winning based on the tiers:
Place | Professional | Amateur | Beginner |
---|---|---|---|
1st | 1.25 SBD | 1 SBD | 0.5 SBD |
2nd | 0.75 SBD | 0.5 SBD | 0.25 SBD |
3rd | 0.5 SBD | 0.25 SBD | 0.15 SBD |
After the first month, I am hoping to set up a pool to award the top photographer in each category with a larger amount of SBD, where the number each 1st place winners will compete for the top photographer of the month for each tier.
Each contest will be open for submissions for 5 days after the post is made and then closes at 0100 UTC (1800 MST) on the 5th day.
This will give me and any guest judges time to judge the submissions and create the post announcing the winners.
How to enter
When you enter a photo in the competition, you will state what tier you want to be judged in and locked in for the month at that level.
For example if you enter a photo, you drop the photo in the comment section, state what level of photographer you are, and then give a description of the photograph.
If you want to make your own post and reference the contest in your post, that would be awesome, just remember to post your picture in the comment section along with your post link. Who knows, you may get a visit and an upvote on your post as well as an upvote on the picture. Use the tag #derangedphotography to make it easy to find your posts.
Additional Notes
This contest is in its early stages and as time goes it things may need to be tweaked to benefit the group as a whole to make it a more fun experience for everyone.
Contestants can only win 1st or 2nd place once a week.
Only one submission per contest. Extra submissions will be ignored.
If you do not state wish tier you want to be judged in for the month, I will leave a comment to remind you to do so, but if you don't respond, you will be assigned to a tier and locked in for that month.
Plagiarism will not be tolerated in any form. All submissions must be your own work. I will investigate every entry and one of the main sponsors is the @steemcleaners team, so if you are caught plagiarizing, not only will you be blacklisted from competing from any future contests, but you will be reported to Steemcleaners as well. It is not worth it to try and cheat, especially with the 3 tier set up where everyone has an equal shot of winning.
Who are the amazing sponsors?
The first and major sponsor being @czechglobalhosts. For those that don't know, @czechglobalhosts puts on two daily photo contests that are open to anyone to enter. His contests cover the entire globe so that anyone can enter. The days and themes are:
- Australian Monday
- Antarctica and World's Oceans Tuesday
- African Wednesday
- European Thursday
- North American Friday
- South American Saturday
- Asian Sunday
On top of the themed daily continent contests, he hosts a daily travel contests specific to the beautiful country of the Czech Republic. So make sure to follow @czechglobalhosts and participate in his contests because he is offering two daily photography contests that you can enter to win.
The other sponsor's I have are @guiltyparties and the @steemcleaners team. @guiltyparties and everyone else behind @steemcleaners does so much for the platform as a whole, trying to reduce the spammers, phishing and plagiarism that goes on here. If you have any free slots for witness votes you should consider casting a vote for @guiltyparties, vote for @patrice, vote for @anyx, vote for @pfunk, and vote for @ arcange. Your votes for these great witnesses go a long way in ensuring the platform continues to thrive.
@spiritualmax is another sponsor of the contest, but he doesn't know it. He delegated 100SP to me two days prior to the announcement of the contest in hopes that I would do good for the Steemit community, and he did not even have any idea that I had been working on releasing these contests. His delegation is much appreciated.
If you would like to become a sponsor and delegate SP to the Deranged Photography Contests you can do so by clicking on the following links:
50 SP, 100SP, 250SP, 500SP, 1000SP,5000SP.
Be sure to leave at least 50SP undelegated on your account. All delegations will go towards rewarding all of the participants of the contests by upvoting the entries. I am hoping to be able to reward everyone for taking part in my contests.
Now get out and start shooting
I hope you are all excited about this new contest. The contest themes will be different than what you are used to seeing on Steemit, and I am doing this to encourage everyone to get out and shoot new pictures. If you are a life long professional nature photographer, some of the themes may push you to try and learn something new. If you are just a beginner photographer, this is a great place to have fun shooting all sorts of exciting styles and learn in the process.
I am looking forward to seeing all of your great submissions. Have fun taking those pictures!!
How about green? This is a wide angle shot in the forest looking straight up into the sky during a G3 solar storm at 54 Degrees North. Vivian Lake, Prince George, Northern British Columbia, Canada.
Certainly the most amazing sky I have ever seen; it was pulsing green in every direction bright enough to see your own shadow.
I have also put it up here
https://steemit.com/photofeed/@intrepidphotos/under-a-green-sky
This is a perfect example of painting the sky. Great shot!
Thanks mate. Glad you like it.
Oh my goodness... That looks like it would have been amazing to be in... Very jealous! Does it move really fast as well?
You can just see the flickering I am talking about a little in this video. Hardly comes across however . In person it’s quite disturbing as the whole sky flickers .
That is awesome. One of my wife's things on her vision board is to stay here at this resort and watch the norther lights.
http://www.kakslauttanen.fi/
Would be cool to do !
Yes on this occasion it moved quite quickly. Hard to describe but the swirls move like the speed you might be able to stir something in a bowl with your hands. Then overlayed on that there is like an electromagnetic pulsing which lights up and dims sections of the aurora . Perhaps like a faulty TV flickering on and off . You don’t see this in timelapes as it’s very quick ( pulsing at 10 times a second perhaps ) . There is some real time video footage from some of the new super high iso Sony video cameras that show it.
That is awesome. One of my wife's things on her vision board is to stay here at this resort and watch the norther lights.

I was looking through my photos undecided which photo to choose.. And then I found this one that I took in Paraguay and had totally forgotten about! Without your contest, this photo would have probably stayed undiscovered forever in some remote corner of my hard drive :D
this is an oldy, 600d with 18-55 kit lens, think the middle exposure was 20 sec
This is an awesome shot. I took a sunrise picture that was similar to this on road trip. We driving in New Mexico and I had to pull over and get out of the car because the colors in the sky were so awesome.
This is near my home in Australia - the Glass House Mountains area is a spiritual home for Aboriginal people. I just never get tired of the splendid sunset over these volcanic peaks.
This is my entry to Deranged Photography Contest hosted by derangedvisions.
I'm a stayhome mom. I take photos with my IPhone7 and then do editing in different kinds of apps. I also like to draw and paint.
I took this photo on Sunday morning around 6.50 am. The waves were strong, but the sky was gorgeous.

Crazy Cloud

This large cloud formation is nicely lit up by the setting sun as I look across the Verde Valley. The rain is nearing its end and the thunderhead is deflating, then finally this beautiful cloud will disappear into the sky.

These colors are awesome. It looks like a pastel painting. Great shot.
Thanks, good to hear.
This is my favorite sunrise shot over the flat desert of Lancaster, CA. Off in the distance somewhere in the frame is where my grandmother grew up during The Depression.
This is such a magnificent shot. There are so many colors! Awesome entry!
I got lucky. We happened to drive through at the right time. It's like my grandma was sending me a little gift. I have a whole series of these, but this one is my favorite. Shot it all out the car window without stopping too. Hah.

Picture Taken By @rabiujaga
Description: Sunset Picture. i took it because it reminded me of how things come and go in life. An empire comes and an empire goes. it also showed me that at a point in time my time will set and people will remember me as a thing of the past.
Hello, I would like to participate in this contest in the amateur tier. This is a photo I took last year flying a kite and later decided to be creative on it:
Thank you!
That kite has some cool colors. It adds some interesting life to the picture. Great job.
Thank you very much! It's a very interesting contest and when I saw the title I definitely wanted to be part of it, although I'm mainly a musician!
My amateur-tier entry to the contest, along with a detailed description, can be found in this post 😊
Lovely colors in the sky! Great entry @thekittygirl!
Hello
i've read the description and made a post and did reference the contest in my post.
and i think I'm an amateur photographer as i'm not a professional and not a beginner.
here is the posts link.

and here is the photo that I used in my post which i want to use in the contest
it was at time of a sunset when a storm was about to happen.
i did not add any effect in this image, it's the fresh one direct from the camera.
i used my Canon Power Shot A2200.
Thanks.
Nice shot. The clouds look awesome.

Great shot! The clouds are awesome in this.
Paint the sky - awesome idea for a photocontest category Wes, it is my pleasure to join again :)
I took this shot last winter in a park in Brno, the second largest city of the Czech Republic. If the clouds were greenish rather than red-yellow, I would swear I saw the northern lights that day! :)
Such a great watercolor painted sky. It looks like brush strokes. Great shot!
Here's my entry for the Beginner section.
As i have a good view at my house, sometimes i capture great images from the sky.
I like the red and purple color tones of this one.

Sunset in Juangriego
Grateful for this opportunity in the photo contest, I am not the best photographer, but I try to take advantage of the photos in their opportunities. That's why this time I present my picture of Juangriego with a beautiful sunset. one of the most beautiful sunsets on the island of Margarita. I went to visit my best friend in Juangriego and before coming I saw this beautiful sunset and I did not lose that opportunity and I captured the photo. a wonderful sunset, I hope you like it.

the beauty of pink sky in Lampulo, Banda Aceh at dusk.
Nice shot. That city is huge!
Yes it is. Thank's for your comment my friend @derangedvisions.
It's winter, and I live in the bush in Northern Ontario....The sky is a hard one to see painted!
I love this picture, the picture is just a fraction of the energy to be felt.
Thank you for this great category. the pictures being submitted are magical!
Absolutely classy photography. All the best with the contest
Thank you. I am hoping that you are able to participate too.
I had a really difficult time deciding which photo to choose. This is the one I liked best because it looks like a watercolor painting. Maybe it's not spectacular, but I like the simplicity.
taken somewhere in Colorado..
Here's the post for more painted sky photos...

I'd like to participate in this contest in the amateur tier with this photo of an amazing susnset that I captured on the beautiful hawaiian island of Maui. I hope you like it 🙂
This is a magnificent shot. Those clouds are amazing.
Thank you! 🙂
Hi Wes,
You maybe remember me in a post of @czechglobalhosts. Now please consider me as an Amateur Photographer and let me know your comment to my work.
Here I send a shot from Rhodes Island one of the largest islands of Greece. I took it from balcony of our cruise ship while returned from a full day walking.
Nice pastel sky. Those colors are cool. Great shot.

Decided on this one...
That's my theme! ) Let me try tier Pro.
Pier in Plock, Poland. I noticed some interesting clouds in the sky and decided that the sunset can be scenic enough. Ther was 20 minutes before the sunset. I packed into the car and drove to my favorite place nearby. I was right and the sunset was pretty amazing.
Wrocław, Poland, 23.04.2018
So I'm trying to use your contest as a motivation and challenge for me. It means that I'm trying to add only new photos, this one I took today... from my window.
Well I am far from being colorful for this one. Grabbed the only one I have and lately the evening skies have been cloudy. Hope it counts. My apologies if not.

I took this with my phone from the west coast of Florida.
