Statues Around the World

thealliance_thealliance_syndicates_pagebreak.png

The world has a lot of very interesting statues in it. One thing I have learned from @czechglobalhosts and @phortun is that the Czech Republic has some amazing and creative statues in it.

These statues I am sharing are some of them that I have encountered recently on my trip for the book I am photographing for. For this contest theme, I would like to see photographs from statues near your home or from your travels. If they are interesting statues, feel free to tell us something about them so that we can all learn about where you live or what you learned on your travels.

NOTE - We have had a lot of newcomers to the contest recently and some have not been reading the rules in their entirety. Only ONE submission per contest is allowed. Please do not enter more than once. If you see other people doing it, feel free to comment to them and inform them of the rules.

How is the Deranged Photography Contest set up?

thealliance_thealliance_syndicates_pagebreak.png

The contest will be broken up into three different tiers. Each will have a different payout for the winners based on what tier you enter into. Here is a breakdown of the winning based on the tiers:

PlaceProfessionalAmateurBeginner
1st1.25 SBD1 SBD1 SBD
2nd0.75 SBD0.5 SBD0.5 SBD
3rd0.5 SBD0.25 SBD0.25 SBD

Each contest will be open for submissions for 5 days after the post is made and then closes at 0100 UTC (1800 MST) on the 5th day.

This will give me and any guest judges time to judge the submissions and create the post announcing the winners.

How to enter

thealliance_thealliance_syndicates_pagebreak.png

When you enter a photo in the competition, you will state what tier you want to be judged in and locked in for the month at that level.

For example if you enter a photo, you drop the photo in the comment section, state what level of photographer you are, and then give a description of the photograph.

If you want to make your own post and reference the contest in your post, that would be awesome, just remember to post your picture in the comment section along with your post link. Who knows, you may get a visit and an upvote on your post as well as an upvote on the picture. Use the tag #derangedphotography to make it easy to find your posts.

NEW FOR MAY!!

thealliance_thealliance_syndicates_pagebreak.png

There will be a prize pool of 5 SBD for each tier for the photo of the month. At after the final contest results are posted, I will create an additional post for everyone to cast their votes for their top photo of the month.

Each 1st place winner throughout the month will be tagged in the post as notification to drop their photo in comment section and the photo from each tier that receives the highest number of votes, number not value, will win the 5 SBD, plus they get all the rewards of the upvotes on their comment too, so win win for them.

I am hoping that this is incentive for everyone to continue to go out and shoot amazing photographs. You are all doing great.

Additional Notes

thealliance_thealliance_syndicates_pagebreak.png

This contest is in its early stages and as time goes it things may need to be tweaked to benefit the group as a whole to make it a more fun experience for everyone.

  • Contestants can only win 1st or 2nd place once a week.

  • Only one submission per contest. Extra submissions will be ignored.

  • You can switch your tier ONE time per month, but only if you are moving up into a higher tier, for example if you are currently in the amateur tier, but you think that you have a photograph that you want to enter in the professional tier, you can state that you are changing your tier to professional. You will then be locked into the new tier for the remainder of the month. You are not able to move down to a lower tier, like going from amateur to the beginner tier.

  • If you do not state wish tier you want to be judged in for the month, I will leave a comment to remind you to do so, but if you don't respond, you will be assigned to a tier and locked in for that month.

  • Plagiarism will not be tolerated in any form. All submissions must be your own work. I will investigate every entry and one of the main sponsors is the @steemcleaners team, so if you are caught plagiarizing, not only will you be blacklisted from competing from any future contests, but you will be reported to Steemcleaners as well. It is not worth it to try and cheat, especially with the 3 tier set up where everyone has an equal shot of winning.

  • Deranged Photography Contests also has a discord channel that you can meet fellow photographers and keep up to date with all of the latest news that is going on with the contest. You can join at this link:

Another great idea. This is the only Statue I could find, it was during a Beach Art Festival on the Berawa Beach in Bali, Indonesia.

I love these colors. Awesome shot.

I took this photo about 10 years ago while on vacation.
The Trevi Fountain - Fontana di Trevi is a fountain in the Trevi district in Rome, Italy, designed by Italian architect Nicola Salvi and completed by Giuseppe Pannini. It’s 26.3 metres (86 ft) high and 49.15 metres (161.3 ft) wide, it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city and one of the most famous fountains in the world.

Such a cool shot. I bet it was awesome to see in person.

Thank you @derangedvisions. It was awesome indeed. Especially for me, since I had a course at university in art history a long time ago

Beautiful shot! I was swimming there this summer, so packed! =) Thanks for sharing the interesting story of these guys.

Thank you @itchyfeetdonica. We were there in winter so there was barely a sole around... it seems for photos this is a good time of year as someone else was saying that to me they have never seen Brighton Beach so quiet that it was packed when they were there.

Happy to share their story... I love their history and that they were recycled and re-purposed in such an amazing way. Thanks again : )

I still remember your description of Brighton Beach. :D You are right winter is a good time of year to shoot those popular beaches! Just I only had holiday during the hottest summer(New Year time). :)

Oh yes, it was you who said about Brighton... :D
Yeah same deal, we were only down for winter as we had been to Thredbo for the snow prior to heading down to VIC. I wonder what it's like Autumn/Spring times?

This whole series of these are so hilarious. I want to go see these. Especially the ones that you didn't post.

Thank you!! : )
Yes I'd like to get back there too... do the whole walk and see them all. We only saw maybe half. When we planned the trip I knew they were there and we wanted to see them but I didn't realise how long the walk was and how much time it would take up. The entire walk takes about 2 hours but if you're us and like to stop, take photos ; ) and appreciate your surrounds more, you're going to need a lot more time! :D There's lots to see and do along the trail!

Great idea Wes, I am glad my creepy statues submitted to Tomas´ contests partly inspired you to come up with this theme :)

I just entered one with almost the same gesture - not so badass, but a bit bullied... ;)

Such a cool looking statue. Great shot.

Today I was at Agios Nikolaos, Crete, Greece. It is a town nearby to the place I live and since my friend Wes wants to see statues from all over the world I took some shots from the status of the town. This is Europa and if you want to know the myth around her, check out my post :)

Awesome shot from when you were visiting Scott!

If you have not heard yet about the mystical ghost, which was mentioned in and old manuscript - you will now. If you have not seen the horrendous, grotesque figure yet - you will. But the best thing is to befriend the spectral creature, many riches and fortune awaits the daring.
Near the castle remains, just past the swing bridge, there is a bronze sculpture of a ghostly silhouette that looks like it is just stepping out of the water via the shore line. 2.4 metres in height, the sculpture holds its own secret - everyone who comes near the frightful sculpture will be greeted by it.
According to one legend, in 1595, one of Klaipėda Castle guards, Hans von Heidi, saw a ghost. The mystical visitor warned the guard that the city’s supplies of grain and timber may be running out, and with that, it vanished just as it had appeared.

Combined with a pretty stunning colourful winter sunrise the Ghost looks just amazing

Enjoy the scenery :)

this is such an awesome picture. It reminds me of the wraiths from Lord of the Rings.

Hi, @derangedvisions :) This is my entry. Beginner level.

Sculpture of mournful angel with cross in hands.
I made this photo 2 years ago at «Lychakiv Cemetery» in Lviv, Ukraine. This is real historical and cultural museum under open air. There are more than 2000 graves, 500 sculptures, chapels which represent artistic value.

If you someday came to Lviv, you definitely should visit this place and join night excursion. It really atmospheric!

This is fantastic. I love the black and white. It adds such a great mood to the overall photo.

Yeah, i agree with you! And thanx)

These are the two lions that guards the original gate of my school University of San Beda. The gate I believe was from the 1850's but the lions I am not sure if they were added much later. There is the cool looking obelisk as well which I I think weird in a Catholic school since Obelisk are of Egyptian origins.

I've taken this pic in Budapest, Hungary cca 5 years ago. It was a quick hitchhiking trip with a friend of mine for a weekend. He wanted to see what hitchiking is all about so we "took off". Regarding the statue, I don't really know much about it, Im sorry :D

Edit: Ok,I've felt too bad for posting something I have no idea about, so I googled it a bit. It's part of a liberty statue. It is supposed to portray the fight against evil. It was originally erected in memory of the Soviets who died while liberating the city from the Nazis, in 1947. The main statue was created by Zsigmond Kisfaludi Stróbl. This is the main statue (from internet), just to provide a context of the photo.

This is my entry in the beginner level.
It was shot in the heart of Athens.

Here's a statue from the Living Memorial Sculpture Garden in Weed, California:

Oh hell yeah!! Been off the web for a bit but slowly getting things back together and excited to see this. We've got some weird statues around here.. on that note: how loose is your definition of "statue"? Haha

well, I am a pretty open photographer that tries to do things differently than everyone else, so if you think it is a statue and have a cool story and can justify it, then I think it would fit right in.

Here is my entry as an amateur photographer.

About the photo

I find it interesting to join in this contest. And I was using photos from my collections. But after I know that this submission wants a statue and i didn't have any proper photos of any statue. I knew the perfect statue for this submission and so I've gone to Jahangir Nagar University Campus of Bangladesh to capture this photo. Had to go via bus and rickshaw as it's a little far from my house. I've gone there today just to took this photo as it's a great symbol of our nation too so i thought i could show this to someone if i use it in this submission.

About the Statue

You can see there are three human in this statue. The standing one was the father, the woman was the mother and the lying one was their son who was shot to death. This statue was made after the history of our mother tongue. Our brothers and sisters gave their life to protect our mother tongue. They died like this and their parents could do nothing rather than crying for their dead children. It's really a shocking story. We are proud of them and we're proud of our mother tongue.

When I knew I was going to travel to France I said to myself "I'm not going to take the same pictures that all the tourists does"... I failed myself. Althought, it feels really good to see that same famous image all around the gift shops, google, post cards, paintings, t-shirts, and many kind of products, but knowing that you have your own version of it.

I am a beginner, when there was no digital, it looked to go better as now. But I do have some good pictures. I never followed any photographic lessons. so my tier is beginner? here you will find my blog https://busy.org/@janine-ariane/deranged-photography-in-auckland

I can't get the picture straight. Many people are struggling with this lately.

We do not have many statues where I live. The area I am from is based on mines. The towns were created to house the miners. After years of mining, the town built a tiny museum/tourist center and added 2 statues. This is one of them that still has pieces intact.
