A Historic Entry For @derangedvisions Photography Contest

Scrolling through my feed, I noticed that @derangedvisions is hosting an architectural photography contest. I’ve withheld from competing before because I’m a wannabe photographer ... maybe not even that.

Despite my incompetence, I love taking pictures of architecture. Arches, walkways, and windows are some of my favorites.

Plus, I had the opportunity to visit some really old architecture when I was working in the Middle East.

This is Al Qosh, an ancient Assyrian monastery. It is still in working order (you can see where they’ve maintained the walls on the upper section) but is located in a city where you have to obtain special permission to visit. When pursued by enemies, the people would flee to the monastery and hide in the caves below.

I don’t think I adequately captured the beauty of this place, but it’s fun to reminisce and share such a memorable place!

This place looks amazing. I would love to visit it one day! Good luck with the contest!

That is an incredible photo @helenoftroy and in a way, it also looks a bit creepy - kind of like an old-times film of Kings and Queens with poor people hiding in caves during times of war.

Thank you for sharing ☺✌

P.S. I would love to know more about the travels you and @ironmanmatt made.

I still remember the day we went there and climbed it together. Fun times!

I think I hummus and gosht that night, which was an excellent chaser.

Wonderfully captured! I wouldn't call you a wannabe photographer at all :) It is beautiful. It seems to tell me of its long and rich history...of secrets that had not been known for long. A kind of beautiful creepiness :)

Scrolling through old pics to find this one brought back a lot of memories ... maybe I’ll be able to share them in future posts! 😊
