'White Faced Heron.'.
I'd love to know what caused the feathers to be raised on the top of this herons head and why his eyes were dilated with shock but I was too busy taking this shot to turn around and see what had grabbed his attention.
These birds are often incorrectly referred to as, grey herons or blue cranes but they are called, 'White Faced Herons'. They are found throughout Australasia, New Ginea, the islands of the Torres Strait, Indonesia, New Zealand and everywhere in Australia apart from the very driest of areas.

They are medium sized herons with blue- grey feathers, yellow legs and distinctive white markings on their faces. These herons love shallow water, whether fresh or salty and are often found around mudflats, pastures and residential lawns and goldfish ponds.
