My latest design ECO is an organization that buys forest land being sold to loggers and prevents loggers from buying the land. ECO, short for Environment Care Organisation, aims to reduce deforestation by providing the opportunity for the forest land to be sold to people before it is sold to loggers. By doing so, ECO is working to help the environment and prevent the harm and dangers that take place because of deforestation.
The Problem
Deforestation is the mass taking down of forestry, generally, by being cut or burnt down, that takes place for a number of reasons. Wood has a number of different uses, among these being for building and architecture, and for fuel. Since wood is a renewable resource, it presents itself as an easy way to produce fuel and/or energy. However, it doesn’t do justice to our environment.
The direct action of deforestation is making huge contributions to climate change and global warming. For starters, let’s talk about Carbon Emissions. Trees work to mitigate climate change, as, in the day, they respire by taking in Carbon Dioxide gas and releasing Oxygen. This helps to reduce the Carbon Emissions that are put into Earth’s atmosphere. This is a great thing for our environment, but the amount of good this is doing is becoming more and more limited with the increase of deforestation. It is estimated that around 15% of greenhouse gas emissions are directly caused by deforestation.
Deforestation has a great effect on the climate. After all the trees are cut down you get left with all this dry and virtually unusable land. Why? Because without the protection from the sun, which is usually provided by forest trees, the forest soil begins to dry out. As well as this, the trees that were once able to return water vapor into Earth’s atmosphere (an important part of the water cycle), are no longer there and the land around where the forest used to be will just become a lump of dry land.
About 31% of Earth’s land area is covered in Forestry, which are the natural habitats of multiple animals, organisms, and ecosystems. The trees in forest areas help to keep in the heat for organisms at night, and during the day they help to shelter these animals from the sun. Without this, the temperature of the area will become less consistent and causes great harm to plants, animals etc that live there.
The design
I got the idea for ECO when I was learning about the devastating effects of deforestation. Sure, I had heard about the effects before, but the more and more I learned, the more I realized something needed to be done. I deeply care about the environment, so naturally, I felt inclined to come up with a way to help reduce the issue. That’s when I came up with the idea for ECO. I thought that, if the opportunity was provided for people to buy the forest land, then it wouldn’t have to be sold to loggers, and the person buying the land would be doing their part to help the environment. Not only would they be doing that but it would also be a great financial investment.
The design for my logo is simple and memorable. It’s pleasing to the eye, and it’s the sort of logo that you can look at and instantly associate it with the site, company, or business it belongs to. I didn’t want to over complicate the design, so everything I put it in it had to be relevant enough to do so. The warm, detailed subtlety placed in this design allows the logo to be implemented into any form of backdrop needed.
Contrast is of many interpretations to the eye of a potential candidate. However, ours provides a warm, modern and relevant feel to the concurrent market. The color palette used expresses subtlety, ensuring that the slightest details can make any logo pop. Elements of Earth, Water and Sky were strategically placed to ensure all aspects were incorporated amongst the world around us. By doing this, we are planting the environmental themes associated with the design into the minds of the viewer.
The warm, slight appearance of orange adds a touch of character to an otherwise basic blue and green. The rotational placement incorporates the vibrant posture the colors posses.
Thank you Steemit for reading this post, I would love to know what you think of this idea.
Please note that this project design is for subjective purposes only. If you are interested in actually developing it, please feel free to contact me, I would love to work with you in seeing this project through to success.
I appreciate your idea, but I really don't see a viable business model in this. The biggest cause of deforestation (at least in South America) is clearing land for livestock. Quite often they even use the slash and burn method, which is the cheapest way to clear a forest and it also makes the grass grow on much faster pace on top of the land.
I think you should look at sustainable economical forest management, which is used in all forests at least in Nordic countries. Finland and Sweden have the biggest biomass industries in Europe, yet their net forest growth has been positive almost the entire century! This I think is a viable solution, that would be greatly appreciated in developing countries where everyone benefits. The forests will be saved and there is still a profitable business in owning a forest.
What ECO should do is educate people in developing countries of sustainable forest management and try to connect investors in the biomass industry to local forest owners.
Great idea. The big hurdle to overcome, I think, would be that people might double-sell the land. They sell it to concerned environmentalists, but those people are scattered around the world, and with nobody to verify that the forest land is being treated properly.... You could have people who buy a bunch of forests, only to learn later that those forests have been destroyed.
I guess what I am trying to say is the ECO idea would need a strong element of continuous verification that proves the location and veracity of the protected area.
Really digg'n the design and it's great to see an artistic approach explained. Would also love to see potential app/design functionality in future posts! Would also love to hear your thoughts on the whole environmentalism debate as a Kiwi.
