studio razavi architecture has sent us its latest realization, a contemporary chalet located in Manigod, Haute-Savoie. The structure combines with taste concrete and wood on the different levels of the house. The architects tell us more about this project.
"In this highly preserved alpine valley, strict architectural guidelines allow for a very low level of freedom of architectural expression. Everything from the height / width ratio of the building to the slope of the roof, via the building material and the size of the windows, is strictly controlled to enforce what is perceived locally as heritage protection, but de facto creating an architecture of camp, imitating constantly the traditional mountain houses.
In order to circumvent these limitations, we took care to analyze the historic buildings to understand what they have accomplished and how they have shaped the local architectural culture. We then incorporated this information into our design, while avoiding artificial and / or obsolete elements and ensuring that the building was fully compliant with the code. "
