Britain is by far not the most loyal country to drugs. But this does not prevent him from becoming the world's largest cocaine and heroin exporter.
Of course, we are talking about legal, manufactured drugs, especially for medical purposes, says Business Insider. In 2016, Britain exported 57 kilograms of cocaine, well ahead of the Netherlands, which ranks second with just 13.7 kilograms. Interestingly, coca leaves grown in Peru are used to produce legal cocaine - this is the only country in the world that is officially exporting this plant.
In the legal heroin market, British leadership is also undeniable. By 2016, it accounts for about 85% of all world exports - other countries buy a total of 535 kilograms of English heroin. By the way, the smallest Swiss is the largest importer of heroin in the world.
Knowing that marijuana in many countries is used to treat various diseases, perhaps, everyone knows. But for medical purposes, many more heavy drugs are used. For example, heroin is often used by British doctors as an anesthetic, and is also part of some nasal sprays. And cocaine is used as a local anesthetic in ENT surgery.
In the meantime, there has recently been concern in the UK about legal drug trafficking. For example, according to some studies, the number of British people admitted to hospital with a diagnosis of "disorder and psychiatric behavior", prescribed cocaine acceptance, over the past 4 years has increased by 90%. And the number of deaths associated with heroin use has more than doubled from 2012 to 2016. Such alarming figures suggest that existing monitoring mechanisms are not working properly and leaving room for abuse.
On the other hand, legalization (albeit in a very limited format) of cocaine and heroin helps solve many problems. Patients in need of these drugs really do not need to look for them in the "black market", and this has a beneficial effect on the situation with the crime.
Proponents of legalization appropriately argue that competent rules are far more effective than prohibitions. This is the only way to seize the production and sale of drugs from the hands of organized crime and make this type of business transparent and secure.
