In search of new photo motives I discovered a water bird, which I hadn't noticed yet. A rather inconspicuous black bird with a white beak. Since I wanted to know what kind of animal it is, I immediately started a picture search when I was back home. Within a short time I had a result. It's an eurasian coot.
Auf der Suche nach neuen Fotomotiven habe ich einen Wasservogel entdeckt, welcher mir bisher noch nicht aufgefallen war. Ein recht unscheinbarer schwarzer Vogel mit weißem Schnabel. Da ich wissen wollte um was für ein Tier es sich handelt, habe ich direkt eine Bildersuche gestartet als ich wieder zu Hause war. Innerhalb kürzester hatte ich ein Ergebnis. Es ist ein Blässhuhn.

Nice photography. I see a lot of these birds on my travels but not many people know what they are. You usually see coots with moor hens. The coots have white heads and the moor hens have red heads

These are really nice photos. I've seen this waterbird in France, I was actually looking at it last week with my little daughter, she asked me what it was, and was really thrilled when the bird dove into the water and came back...

Nice pics. That reminds on yesterday. I was at farm where I captured some funny Animal Videos. I think I will upload them later on DTube .... hope I can figure soon how that works ..
I need to start traveling more because I have never seen a "water foul" like this before either.
Coots are very common here in the UK, but I have never seen one that looked as smiley as this particular Coot! Perhaps it's something in the water in Germany ;o)

When me and my brother were young we went to the local lake in winter time. Many of these coots were stuck, frozen to the ice on the lake. Many were hungry and weak. We unstuck them and collected them in big cotton sacks. So at home we had the whole bathroom full with coots! We fed them until they were strong enough again and then released them where we found them. I'm still in awe of our parents tat let us do this..... :-)
