RE: Germany post-election

in #deutschlast month (edited)

What about another explanation? East Germans were not reunited but rather "colonized" by West. Their influence on economy, politics, their own life was very limited and that's why any party which is not West German is attractive for them?

Sort:

East Germans were not reunited but rather "colonized" by West.

Politically I would say it was the other way round. Socialists and socialist-indoctrinated politicians (Angela Merkel) took over West Germany.
And yes, East Germans are only about a third of West Germans, so they have less influence, so that they may choose to vote the most contrarian (to West Germans) party.
