The direction of my blog...

in #diary2 years ago

There's something I'd like to discuss.

It's where my blog is going, and what should I do about it.

Posting these daily quizzes seemed like a great idea, and yes, it was for a while. But I've recently started to think it's a bit too much. I mean a bit too much for everyone. It feels like it's all I'm doing these days, trying to figure out who the next mash-up pair should be, what to write about them, all that.

What I'm tying to say, it feels like all my efforts are in vain. I'm not really making any impact. Yes, people are having fun, yes they are getting rewarded for taking part in the quiz. But during those games, I can't expect to see any organic conversations build upon and around these quizzes. And that's what I feel a blog should really be about.

Can we have a conversation about this? Any ideas on how I should proceed?

I've been thinking of turning the quiz into a separate game, but I would need some time to actually try and code it, so I might as well keep the quiz going for a short while until I have my plans in order.

That's all I could think of this morning. I'll take Miro to school, and be back to discuss, if someone comments here.

I think I can only echo the comments by Cwow. Reduce the frequency if it is getting too much.

Instead of daily quizzes, do weekly and just save the rewards for the weekly.
Maybe even have 1 - 3rd place getting rewarded.

And then just post normally throughout the week.

Or you could also make a totally new account for the quizzes, which would properly impact the rewards right

That's one change I was pondering over, but it would mean a lot of changes to the structure of the game, rewards and other stuff. Games ending abruptly is also a thing. When I post daily, there are still times when the quiz comes to a close as soon as it was posted, but the wait for the next one isn't that long. If it were a week's wait, I don't know how many would be willing to wait.

But maybe that's just me.

I'm not sure how to reward 3 people for the same quiz. Do you mean that I should post 3 images, and people should try to guess all of them, and then reward those who got them right?

Using another account for quizzes would be fine, but yes like you said it would be a little bit more difficult to reward the guesses with an upvote, and the prizes should possibly be prepared beforehand.

Maybe 3 weekly quizzes posted at once?

Is it only 1 entry per person?

It could be the first 3 and fastest to get it right, but people had a whole week for them to guess.

I guess it depends on how hard the quizzes are though.

Could also be 3 pictures.

Lots of options though :D

Well the original (daily) had three guesses per participant. I put it on hiatus for a week. Hopefully I can come up with a system that is satisfying.

One interesting idea would be to post three images once a week, and let people guess for a number of days, after which reveal the real names, and count whoever guessed right the most, or something.

Most right and fastest, if you reward more people could be cool :D
