Oscar-winning Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio has published on his page in Facebook the petition to protect Beluga whales and killer whales that are contained in the "whale jail" in Primorye, with an appeal to release them.

The actor called the" inhuman " capture and maintenance of marine mammals in the Bay of the Middle. Just four hours after the publication, the petition was signed by 900 thousand concerned people from all over the world, this number continues to grow.

Earlier Pamela Anderson, who is a well-known animal rights activist and a member of the organization for the protection of animals, sent an appeal to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin with a request to release the animals from the "prison". Putin assured that the problem will be solved before March 1.

As told in Greenpeace Russia, celebrity support will help to solve the problem of the release of cetaceans.

The head of the research Department of Greenpeace Russia Hovhannes Targulyan said That DiCaprio's attention is incredibly important for the organization, there is hope that the process of releasing killer whales and belugas will accelerate, and the animals will be free after undergoing rehabilitation.

Also, the situation was taken under control by the Council for marine mammals.  The website of the organization says that the animals will be created the most comfortable conditions at the moment, regardless of when they will be released.

90 Beluga whales and 12 orcas lived in the Bay of Srednaya under Nakhodka in captivity, most of them are cubs under the age of one. In December of the "whale jail" has lost three of Beluga, they're probably dead. On February 21, one killer whale escaped from the cages, environmentalists claim that, most likely, this animal is dead.

On the fact of imprisonment of animals in inappropriate conditions criminal case under article "Cruel treatment of animals"was brought. At the moment, work is underway to release orcas and belugas, aimed at returning whales to their usual environment. However, so far these measures have not led to anything.
