When people have more food than the body needs at the moment, the excess food is stored in the body as fat. The fat is stored under the skin, in between the muscles and around the internal body organs. This is the body's way of saving up energy for emergencies. On a moderate amount this is very healthy and normal but when the fat accumulates excessively, it becomes a concern.
The accumulation of body fat differs according to individuals. Women store their body fats mostly in their hips and thighs while men store fat in their abdomen. Fat isn't bad, in fact it is needed for normal body function, however when the fat content increases abnormally some serious issues come up.
What are the risk of excess body fat?
Unusual accumulation of fat is called obesity. obesity is the most prevalent health condition common to people of all races and income levels. It is very easy to note when an individual is obese. A common sign is the increase in body mass which is usually responsible for weight gain. In addition to obesity, certain psychological effects have been observed :It is common to find overweight persons having low self esteem and low self confidence, apparently because society judges health by how trim and fit the body appears. Moreover, employers of labor are more likely not to employ an obese individual as the result of health risks associated with obesity. Researchers recently discovered that obesity increases the risk factor for numerous health issues upto 20%.
Similarly, the life span of obese individuals is shorter than average meaning that overweight people will die early.
How does the body accumulate weight?
Carbohydrates, fats and oils(CFO) are the main sources of energy for the body. These are also responsible for the body fat as when these are digested they are stored in the body as fat. Therefore consumption of food substances that contain these can lead to an increase in body weight. Furthermore the body uses up its fat deposits as energy source. So an increase in physical activity can cause the burning of stored fat.. This is the logic behind many weight loss diets.
In essence can easily track your weight gain two basic activities, the amount of CFO intake and the amount of physical activity that you undergo.
