Hello Steemians!
Today I would like to share a game project @lunaticmoon , myself and two others worked on for a couple of months (Aug-Dec).
one of the characters, his name is M0N-GR
The game is called:
lacuna
ləˈkjuːnə
noun
1. an unfilled space; a gap.
Lacuna is a Cyber-Noir adventure, following Nox; a private investigator in an attempt to prevent crimes that have yet to be committed.
With the help of mysterious messages containing photos of the impending crime scene, the player unravels mysteries in a gritty cyberpunk city. Investigate suspects and piece together clues to find the true culprit of the crime before it ever transpires.
We participated in the GCAP (Game Connect Asia Pacific) Student Showcase as well as showcasing for PAX Aus . This made us gather an incredible amount of feedback which helped us immensely.
The game started off with really bare bones. We wanted to get the atmosphere and the aesthetic out first thing.
This is probably one of our first builds. We hadn't fixed the text or the main street yet. It was really to get a feel for the aesthetic and the dialogue

To compare the "end product" and the first attempts, here's the same event in different builds:

Most recent build
You can notice the change in background, dialogue and the addition of a HUD!
The HUD includes a timeline and a clueboard, which is one of the main mechanics of our game. Connect clues together, see what clues you have and make your own theory! (Really like a conspiracy theory board)
Clueboard
You can also present certain clues to characters by clicking them inside the cluboard whilst in dialogue.
Here are a couple of screenshots of the in-game 'atmosphere':
Main Street 1
Main Street 2
Main Street 2, but at sunset
As you can see, we implemented a day-night cycle as well as a weather system. The weather is rather stormy at nighttime, and it is sunny during the day. It makes the game have so much more depth.
We also implemented a couple of different scenes to make it more interesting to play through. Different characters are at different spots.
For example, here's the park and the alley:
Park 1
Park 2
Alley, thank you @lunaticmoon for all the amazing small pixel sprites btw
Greg, whom you can talk to in the Alley
Johnnie, whom you can also talk to in the Alley
Finally, one scene that stands out from the rest is probably Sammie's bar. Unlike our flat-on main street, alley and park, Sammie's bar is a top-down view. We thought it would break up the gameplay and make a nice little room to explore (we added some nice interactibles!)

To close off this long post, here are a small amount of the sprites I did for dialogue:
Nox, our main character
Johnnie
The Lizard gang
We're hoping to maybe release this in the future - so I'll keep you guys posted. Thank you Team Fourth Eye for all the effort you guys put in.
We have a FB and a Twitter @ > TeamFourthEye if you want to follow us.
Also thanks again to @lunaticmoon for all the insane work you put in on the main street and for ALL the small sprite animations. Absolutely insane stuff.
I hope you guys liked this!
Until next time,
Skullyzard <:D
Looks so good! :D id play that!
Thank you! This will give us motivation to at least release a build on itch.io !
This game looks so good already and seems very interesting! Will follow to make sure I get updated ^^
Sweet! Thank you so much :>
Wow this looks really cooll and I love adventure games and choices that will lead to different reaction! I'd definitely like to play this, looking forward to the updates :D
Woo ! Hopefully we get this into dev soon. We had a lot of really good feedback, and people that wanted to play it - we definitely have to work an insane amount to make this work but - at least - maybe in the next few months we'll have a build available on itch.io.
Great, I've never created a game before and I bet it's not easy.. so I really respect those that are making games! You can do it ;)
Sweet baby jesus, I love it!
Hats off to you guys for pulling off that amount of work in that short of a timeframe! The game a few friends of mine and I are working on progresses much, much slower in comparison.
Any plans when and where you'll release it?
Wow thank you so much!
Yeah we were under a strict timeline, especially because we wanted to showcase at PAX!
the release info is very vague at the moment. The whole team is kind of taking a break off things. We'll definitely have a meeting about it soon though.
That's sweet! How did PAX go? :)
Please keep me (and all the other steemians) posted with more updates and once you have a release date!
Cool! Reminds me of Larry pixel quest I had been playing for hours in my childhood learning English.
Oh!!!! You are so talented. @skullyzard.
