I can get lost looking at this image all day probably one of my fave
I was cleaning up my old files recently and found this digital reverse painting I made a long time ago. It’s the style where you start with a black background and then erase parts to show the colors. I always thought it was such a unique technique, like revealing something hidden piece by piece.
I wasn’t even planning to write about this, but seeing it again brought back so many memories. It reminded me of how much I loved just creating without overthinking. I can see the time I had to spend just to create the right shapes as I was scraping some layers away. Lately, I’ve been feeling stuck, like I’ve lost some of that excitement. Looking at this piece kind of reminded me why I started making art in the first place. Where did my patience or passion for art go? makes me question myself lately.
When I worked on this, I didn’t have much of a plan. I just kept adding colors here and there, trying things out. Some areas turned out really nice, like this part where the red and blue blended into a beautiful purple. But there were also parts that didn’t look as good, to be honest. It’s always a struggle to keep everything balanced—letting the creativity flow but still keeping some control. The end is satisfying up to this day I must admit.
Looking back now, I can see things I could’ve done better. But that’s the process, right? You try, you experiment, and you learn along the way. Some days you are at your best some days you feel lazy and unmotivated.
Even though this isn’t my latest work, it still feels special to me. It reminds me of how fun it is to create and how sometimes the best results happen when you just let things happen naturally. Something to inspire me to keep doing what I love and never settle to be lazy hahaha
