Did you know it's Disability Pride month? Yeah, me neither, and I've worn the mantle of a label of "disabled" since the system medicalized my personal experience as unfit to easily harmonize with the oppressive systems dominating humanity into suppressive and oppressive conditions. While this comes with an incredible weight of stigma and challenges, it's also brought its own unique joys and freedoms. I'm thankful for the gift of this life, this body, these experiences. I'm not typically one that gets into a lot of holidays and these types of monthly thematic celebrations but the population of folks who are seen only as disabled first, with the rest of their being restrained behind that projection, needs more voices and hearts, mine and yours, to embrace them as valued, as equals.
