Discord introduces unique usernames - Finally more security?

A few days ago I received a newsletter from Discord that really excited me. We all know it, at least here on Hive, when you search for your friend/acquaintance, you find them under their username, prefixed with an @. We already know this tagging or prefixing with an @ from many other tools in daily life. In software like Microsoft Teams, Slack, Miro and so on, where people work together, it is common to find and contact colleagues with an @ followed by the username.

With the introduction of a new system at Discord it will soon be possible to define your unique username. So soon the # as well as the 4-digit number sequence will be omitted. This should simplify everything and make everything more uniform. But does this new system also offer more security?

I say yes, because in the past, as I have noticed, accounts of moderators, admins or high-ranking players on a server were copied and thus abused by malicious users / bots to fake the identity. For example, on the Splinterlands Discord server there was a time when accounts of admins and moderators were massively copied and players with the fake accounts were contacted to offer deals, free rewards, which of course were fake and thus resulted in the loss of the user's assets.

I personally think the development of Discord in the past always and always better - Unique usernames were long overdue - Especially since with Discord-Nitro you could choose the number that is displayed. But this is now all history soon, when the unique usernames come to Discord.

Maybe it will be easier to find our Hive users on Discord - if the username here is the same as on our platform. All in all a good change and I am curious how long it will take Discord to roll out the update.

What do you think of the username changes coming to Discord?

Nice, finally!

It's good to hear it. I really had a hard time looking some friends in discord because of the numbers but atleast we can search by name using @.

I've waited for it

I think it's great you are helping to get the word out as I did not know about it.

And it's on time since #Hive is building: https://chat.peakd.com
