A tool for analizing if quality discussions are happenening: Stats for nerds on the #discussion category

in #discussion7 years ago (edited)

All tables are automatically generated interrogating the Steemit API

I have been trying to convince the Spanish community to spend less time chatting in discord and more time exchanging in each other's posts, this is why I received with joy and surprise the introduction of this #discussion tag by @timcliff and embraced the initiative.

I was preparing this tool to show my micro community that we waste too much time in discord and telegram and not enough in here.

I think the main problem comes from the lack of ergonomic means to maintain a discussion in steemit (U.E once again) and the indirect culprit in my opinion is the nesting of comments in posts and the consequent indentation that makes for a real conversation very difficult to follow once it is ten or so levels deep. (As I mention in this Reply to Tim's article)

I have been experimenting with hitting the reply button, not on the last comment i want to reply to, but in the first one to avoid indentation.

But enough of that because not only ergonomics is to blame, we as humans have lost the hability to properly read longer than a few tweets worth at a time and have gotten to this annoying habit of replying in emoticons or memes or plain images.

Then we complain the rewards are not enough to spend time writing about quality, come on first of all most minnows are giving they vote to a trail that votes million posts a day and their VP remains in the low 40% diluting the already weak 0.001SBD they are allowed to cast as a reward, then half of the time we are spending time in those kinda useless contests, the reblog bots... See a pattern here? Minimal effort, quick cash out...

But enough about that also, because these are supposed to be stats for nerds.
My script is not finished yet I intend to pull each reply and count the words in them and do proper automated quality assessment, but i wanted to present these preliminary findings in this relatively new TAG.

Parameters:

The first worrisome fact we find is that out of 100 posts query limit, I only got 92 (so there are less than 100 posts using this tag, ok it is new)

Total returned Post from query# posts req
92100

Out of: 92 posts; 8 match the criteria

Yes, only 8 Eight!

Met the subjective criteria to qualify as discussion

Tag CatPost max ageMax votesMax rewardMin comment count
discussion6 days100100.oo SBD30

I can fine tune the criteria and i am open to suggestions, actually this is why i'm publishing this post :D

Note: Age is expressed in days | V Stands for Votes | C stands for total comments and replies in post

Money Talks!
| ReSteems & Upvotes | are the general motivation to keep publishing, so if you enjoyed, i just told you how to show some love!

But by all means please also comment and help me fine tune this little curation tool I'm enjoying programming.

I know TL|DR but i want to know if this kind of curation tool would be useful for anyone but me.

You opinion Matters!
