Is Your Glass Half-Full or Half-Empty?

in #discussion7 years ago (edited)

I guess I'm a glass half-full type of person. I don't have many complaints or concerns about anything. I especially don't have concerns for things that are not relevant to my direct experience. Some would be surprised at how little I give a shit about world affairs or what goes on in other people's lives other than my loved ones. I couldn't care less about what is happening in other states or foreign countries. And rightfully so in my opinion. Life can be hard enough, let alone adding crap to worry about or getting angry over issues that are irrelevant to my experience. In my world, everything is just fine. Fortunately, I have been blessed in many regards and especially from a financial perspective. It wasn't always sunshine and rainbows but many years ago I started looking at the positive things around me and realized that focusing on myself regardless of what was happening "out there" was the best thing I could do for myself, my family, and humanity as a whole. I think we sometimes get trapped into looking outwards and don't spend enough time looking inwards. I have somehow managed to focus on being the best person I can be and it has paid off.

The point of this post is not about me though. . .

It's about something I have noticed living as a human being on this planet. There are many people who seem to want things to be different. An underlying obsession with people, places, and things. A desire for change and a strong feeling of despair. There is an inability to accept reality for what it is. They think change needs to happen in many facets of life and most of the time this change has nothing to do with themselves. It is always something "in the world" that needs to change. An incessant need to blame others and find fault in "the system". This is most noticeable(especially on Steemit) about the big bad government that is out to sabotage, steal, and manipulate. Hours are wasted with this type of thinking and more importantly it takes energy away from an individuals ability for personal well being. There seems to be a large percentage of the world who doesn't understand that their personal success is the greatest gift they could provide to all of man-kind regardless of the "scary" things happening around them. Success can be defined in many ways, but for the sake of conversation, it will be defined as having spiritual, mental, physical, and financial stability.

I am not here to provide unsolicited advice to anyone, but what I will do is provide some information to possibly help those who cannot see the glass half- full. Maybe this will create a little space in people's minds  to stop for a moment and be grateful. Listed below are some laws in a couple of countries along with a poverty map of the world. Before you complain about things, maybe it would be wise to realize that things could be worse and quite possibly you have more freedom than you think. . .Who knows. .

CHINA- Population: 1.4 Billion

  • 50 grams of cannabis and you can be put to death
  • Leads the world in executions
  • Over 150 prominent websites are blocked
  • Pornography is illegal
  • Freedom of Speech almost non-existent- 49 journalists arrested in 2016

Saudi Arabia- Population 34 million

  • Banned: Selling anything red on Valentine's Day or wearing anything red
  • Banned: Movie Theatres
  • Banned: Pork
  • Banned: Music Classes
  • Banned: Gyms/Sports for women
  • It is against the law for non-Muslims to worship in public in Saudi Arabia
  • Women under 45 must travel with a husband or father or they need a permission slip signed by a male.
  • Women aren't allowed to drive

This map displays the percentage of population living on less than $1.25 per day in different regions of the world.

Just maybe you don't have things so bad, huh?

Or

Is your glass so half-empty that you are already thinking . . but what about this, but what about that, but. . but. . but. .

It's your life, do as you will. . You won't find me worrying about it. :)

Great read Brother, My Glass is always half full :-) Every day I say Life is Good + La Vida es Buena ! usually to everyone I meet. I haven't had a cent in my account for almost a year now, but the future looks bright indeed.
I should have a 38-foot sailboat to work on before months end. The Pacific Ocean has provided a great living for me for many of my years on this planet, and so it shall again soon. Every day at sea is a good day for me.
Life is Good
see you at the tables.
Cheers

Happy to see you back on Steem Cody! See ya st the tables for sure!!

Thanks Dude, and thanks for funding yesterdays tourney. After being away from all screens for so long I'm having a hard time readjusting LOL. Playing poker is easy compared to getting back up to speed in the crypto world, and putting my thoughts down on keyboard instead of talking.
But the future looks Bright...
Life is Good

This was an interesting read and I do love the attitude you put into it.

Every human being owes it to his or herself, personal fulfilment. No one can give it to you and such a state sure makes things look better.

When trials come, as they usually do, how good all facets of your life is will determine how you will be able to cope and if you will overcome. It is your duty to make the best you that you can; you deserve that.

The amount in the glass doesn’t matter to me. I’m thankful for the glass. It is a vessel that I can fill and empty. In general, I enjoy the contents of the glass; and when I don’t I dump it and fill it with something I enjoy!

I just want to share my view on the question of glass emptiness : )

It seems actually like the better option to me to consider the glass half-empty.
If it's half-full, it means I was given only half-filled glass.
If it's half-empty, it means it was originally full and I've drunk half of it!

I know that even though I think things are bad for me, there are about 6 billion people who have to deal with much worse problems. But hey, the situation is getting better faster than ever in history!

(By the way, I just started following you because of your amazing audience. This is a comment section I want to be part of.)

Thank you for the point of view. Interesting take on the half-full/half empty :) :) Look forward to interacting in the future my friend.

I started looking inwards after recovering from an anxiety disorder disease. I keep myself busy.
Doing things that will enrich inside of me. Performing prayers to get positive energy. I dont want to again become sick.

Your post really helpful points rawdawg. Thanks for sharing. Hope to get more from you?

My glass is full to the last drop, then I open a new bottle. The poorest places and the richest places are both filled with miserable mopes and cheery faces. I think your expirience is dictated by your approach.

I'm half full, but I used to be half empty. At some point I just realized any problem I had with the world was actually a problem I had with myself. I think everyone has their own challenges in life, so why would we worry about other people's. Worry about your own, overcome your challenges, then help others where appropriate. Instead of complaining, be the change or do the good deeds.

Nice one, thanks for the perspective, I have small problems compared to a large portion of the world.

I still hate taxes! Now hand me your glass as I am a thirsty fellow and my glass is always empty.

Love your post. Really impressed with your heading half full half empty . after this article love your post resteemed it
