As the drama and excitement from HF20 begins to die down, we are back to waiting for SMTs.
This hardfork was meant to enable scalability and growth. Whether or not you think that was accomplished, there wasn't a lot of immediate value in the fork. Combined with no visible marketing yet, and a lot of questions and dissatisfaction about the chain, it is my opinion we are going to enter into another six months of grinding along, and some days asking ourselves why. :)
With the price lower and no cryptocurrency pump in sight, we have to face the possibility we will continue to move the chain forward 3 seconds at a time while dApps get built and SMTs programmed and planned, without significant growth.
If one believes in the future value of the Steem Blockchain this is a great time to accumulate tokens, find others who are also here for the long haul, and hone your skills. I have no doubt there will be some who do exactly this. Others will move on, and that is also fine.
If we set our expectations for a long-slow haul and suddenly cryptocurrency does get a pump, that is easier to adjust to for most than expecting something to happen each day, while we grind along.
I want to remind those who are disappointed with earnings that we are all disappointed with earnings! lol, from large to small most of us would like to get more engagement, more Steem and more appreciation.
Most of you know this, but a reminder for new followers, I built this account which is moderate in size, earning pennies at a time. 1 penny, began to earn inflation and helped me earn curation and that in turn earned the next penny, soon those pennies became a dollar and so on and so forth. I bought in a few times with relatively small amounts. I gained a follower here and there, and the rewards started to grow faster. If you want to build your account Powering Up matters.
I acknowledge Steem has many flaws, but so do most cryptocurrency projects and I expect many of us will survive the grind.
If you picture a long slow grind coming over the next 6 months to a year, how does it feel? How will you react? What are your goals?
Let's talk about in the comment section
@whatsup,
I don't believe on short term market pumps! I want to see SMT and after that the future of STEEM! Yeah we didn't see, we don't see but HF20 made the ground for that SMT launch!
Now it's almost 16 moons for my account. I earned by commenting (I mean engaging) and some times with my posts as well! Anyway it's almost 16 moons gone! But here I am and here I am stilling typing comments and engaging with my following people!
With that interaction sometimes I earn, sometimes I am not! Anyway, I have SP I have enough SP to see that big picture of SMT launch!
Cheers~
Congrats on 16 moons! :) I often struggle with wanting to feel we are doing things right to add value, but also... It's crypto, so there are pumps and dumps.
My hat was tossed into the ring a couple months ago. Six months, 12 months, it makes no difference because I believe. I believe in the future of cryptos. I believe in the social media angle of Steemit and I believe in the capabilities Steemit has to change the lives of those who live in less than ideal conditions. I believe in your 'Make Steem 8 Again' campaign.
I believe that more crooks and greedy people will wiggle their way out of the woodwork and I believe that many more people will discover how good it feels to help others less fortunate than themselves simply by dropping a vote on them.
I believe that new Steemit legends will be made. I believe I will meet some great people that I consider an honor to call 'friend'.
I am here for the grind and will continue to learn as the days go by.
Great speech. ;-)
ha thx!
Ha, I love it... I believe all of that and more will happen as well!
Yep!...let's make it happen!
I think rewards might be going up so that is a good thing.
Personally, I haven't noticed that, but if it is true that is awesome.
Only about a quarter of the Steemhunt token airdrop was claimed. Free money, just sitting there, and even many active Steemians didn’t bother.
Meh. I am going to just keep plodding along, slowly earning, buying some here and there, and powering up.

I claimed mine. Some of the self-appointed critics have decided they don't like Steem Hunt, my view is take what you can use and leave the rest alone.
What is interesting is that now with RCs and potential earnings on that, everyone who starts now has access to two potential revenue streams here in some future. How many will take this new opportunity and power up?
The future always seems a long way away until it arrives and finds you unprepared.
That is a very interesting idea. I hope someone does make a market for it. I know I don't need all mine.
Very few individuals with more than 500-1000 SP will ever really need it all so it makes sense to be able to be part of the empowering of new users. Not sure if/when it will happen but it makes the most sense to give the community the tools to grow itself.
Nobody gets rich overnight, at least not in my world. Investing in a project like steemit in which I believe, since, I like it, it does not become routine, but it becomes pleasure, and like any relationship of lovers Steemit and I will have our highs, but also low in our relationship, however Keeping us together will be the goal. and be happy for as long as necessary. I think that little by little and with patience, planning time can go far.
Enchanted with your work, and your support of always, because you have shown interest in the new projects and encourage the little ones, happy to meet you.
Good vibes.
haha, you are always around spreading cheer and happiness! Also, great vibes. :)
That is my project, raise and give good vibes in the least expected moments. and that each one takes a SMT of affection hehehe.
Unashamedly in this category
Me too! Be proud, be loud!
Ive been here for 2 long years fighting for every penny and still fighting. Seen many come and go, i have been tempted a few tines to move on but steemit keeps pulling me back.
I say that also, I've pried every Steem I have out of the reward pool.
No. You have worked for it by being a big part of steemit
When i hear grind i think of my teeth hurting. Yikes. Hmmm, the fantasy i had of people all over the world who could really improve their lives and help their family and friends? Was i crazy? Is that even possible? Hmmm, is even possible that i will ever earn back the money i spent buying steem when it was almost 6 dollars??? lol , that was a mistake but it helped get going here and be a contribution in a small way to others. It also locked me in and keeps going. So i ramble a bit here and there and am going to keep sailing along... escape from the "doldrums" will be nice, and freshing breeze from the northwest, sail on sailors ;) adventures await. Well there's me being a bit silly
i don't think you were or are crazy. we saw/ feel this too! and i do think you will earn it back, but it may take some time! we are here too, and glad to see you silly :)
Thank you! @mountainjewel writing is not my best skill which is very silly here on steemit right? I was thinking that crypto needs to be easy... really really easy like how computers got to be when i bought a macbook pro 10 years ago. It went from clunky clanky cranky and somewhat difficult to do anything to easy as pie. Am i making sense? For instance why not just be able to go buy 10 or 100 or 1000 steem in my wallet just by using my bank card... couple of clicks and voila! done. Ok now i feel like i just set myself up for a spanking. If it was that simple for everyone it would be huge. Of course there are many who like it complicated and profit from it... now i'm asking for it ... oops : )
This kind of gives some hope to a sustained growth here on steemit! :)
Honestly, I don't even care how is steem priced these days. Not being a hypocrite, I entered steemit for the money; but right now, the idea is to grow, power up, and first objective is reaching minnowhood, without considering if steem is priced at 5$ or 0,01$! If I didn't saw potential in the long term, no point in staying here; I end up spending here more time than I antecipated, growth takes time, there are lots of great projects evolving here, and although only online, I've met quite a few cool people on the platform.
So, I will be very interested in knowing how steem will be priced in 2, 3, 5 years. Now? Focusing on interacting with the community and as you say, gathering pennie by pennie!
Absolutely, just keep posting and engaging... it starts growing faster and faster with time..
No need to wait.
Building a community to take what we have an make it awesome. I know you're with me!!
I shall check this out! :)
I figured there would be ups and downs like everything crypto and blockchain. Also there are risks with early adoption of anything which is why there are potential rewards for doing so.
These were factors in my decision to build a business here for the long term. A little outage and fork drama is just part of the landscape and the cost for progress.
Water off the duck's back and I have met so many new solid steemians in the last week!
Fork drama for engagement! Whoot.
I am not above being shameless. I can just blame it on @matkodurko for the challenge.
I really should have challenged you!
Haha what what's happening here I'm lost :D

It is me who was lost. This was right after my challenge post and my friend @whatsup replied to a reply of a reply and upvoted my reply out of sympathy for the confusion I have drawn you into.
Ah well, you two solid STEEMians should know eachother anyhow. #Dementiasucks.
It's great to see people start from nothing and grow! I remember 2 years ago back in the steemit.chat and this is not the first time we have had something negative happen with STEEM, but we continued to push, and now we have over 1 million accounts! I believe the next hurdle is 1 million Daily Active Users, and once we hit that it's Game Over. So hopefully SMTs will help get us there! 😉
6 months, that's a short window :) My view on STEEM is a 10 year view <3 <3 <3 Probably why I don't get phased much by any bullshit xo
Looking to go full time next year yet right it feels like a scary decision. I am not sure what the future holds as what is discussed here keeps changing with the hour but I am staying. Something about slowly acquiring SP in the last two months has really spiked my interest in seeing where this takes me.

Disappointed with the earnings consensus as well that said from a long term perspective the SMT token value is there, however from a cryptocurrency perspective six months is a long wait in this space, where capital and fortunes can be made in a day.
That said for those who are more passive traders this is a good opportunity to build up SMT assets before the market even values them, and hopefully find the next killer app and have a good stake when the time comes for them to shine.
I don't think fortunes are ever made in a day in crypto, however, they can be realized in a day. The rich crypto people got rich, but buying, grinding and accumulating while the price was low.
It paid off on the day it went up.
I agree speculation is not the way to get ahead of the game, you can get lucky however can lose it just as easily in a day, and unless you realize your gains they can be lost the next.
I agree long term holding is the way to go, the biggest issue would be knowing when to hold and when to sell and when to accumulate.
Examples would be Dash, Ripple, Bitcoin, Steemit when they went crazy there were large profits, if you are a true HODL even in the rally and not satisfied with the price, then of course you will be disappointed with earnings!!! Hence, not satisfied with the price.
Each crypto mentioned saw their heyday for a period this year, before settling back down.
With Steemit the biggest question on the trading would be the power down process to lock in gains, that said it does reduce the unpredictability of selling everything at once, since a power down takes 13 weeks to complete and seven days from the day you decide to start selling in a rally. It is a forced dollar cost averaging, that gives you sober second thought.
The real question is if the market is predicting January for SMT does that mean power downs will start essentially today for 13 Weeks on the presumption of selling on the hype and buying on the delivery or if the market is a true HODL after SMT launches and the rally starts that day, then you begin a power down.
Or to accumulate more steem for the long term, knowing your steempower is worth more in a long run game a lot of game theory :).
I'm still excited about steemit. It has always felt like a high risk/reward investment. Some of the risk is reduced by earning steem. I can either accumulate SBD's or withdraw some and diversify. This is much more interesting to me than mining. I just don't see the point in using lots of electricity and having nothing to show for it, accumulating steem, even if it isn't huge amounts, is much more satisfying. The future is unpredictable, even though I like TA :)
Totally high risk and tons of potential. Yeah, I also love it that my Steem earns Steem
"I acknowledge Steem has many flaws"
You know, you don't see me coming on here and badmouthing you!
You are a Geek!
haha how does that low slow grind feel? well it depends on what kind of music is playing! lol ... i agree powering up matters. we've also grown our account the slow way, penny by penny, post by post, daily!
in all honesty, we are prepared for this. i can only imagine what the accounts who have been here for the entire time have experienced. i know the pump we entered in (in winter 2017/18) was the highest it's been and i do have hope we can get there again. slow grind doesn't scare me, though i have noticed a huge decline after the HF in terms of commenters and posters. I hope and trust it's a short term thing, but come back to Steem people!
Great attitude and you are going to do just fine.
Maybe this will weed out the quick money grab content. Maybe it will weed out some competition?
Yes, I think we will have less spam and hopefully less get rich quick folks.
I did what i could. Bought a 1000 steem and ill leave it at that. Gave up more then i should. Now its staying inside my savings.
Powering up isnt an option for me because i never know when i might need it. Right now im holding around 2500 Steem over 2 accounts, half in SP, half liquid.
Its a grind from now on. Good thing i have Helpie and Bernie for that dolar a day. Sounds a lot nowadays. Really isnt but its nothing to ungrateful about. That one dollar a day might turn into much more down the line.
Bots help as well...
Powering up and engagement are key. Honing your skills on curation is good to.
Yes! Ready for the grind and in for the long haul. Plus I was able to make two posts go up by a cent or two instead of one! Kaizen principle applies :)
Whoot whoot, for small gains that add up!
Haha I always assumed that being successful here was going to be a grind so I am at peace with that. I think saying it like you are doing here is important though because people do need to have realistic expectations. When I was going through and unfollowing dead accounts, I saw a lot of people who showed up and wrote one or two good posts (which is why I followed them) and then quit because they didn't earn hundreds of dollars worth of steem during their first week.
Exactly, they didn't hit the big time after the second article and they are now gone.
Yeah that was the impression that I got. It is a shame too because some of them looked like they had promise but there is a feeling of rejection that comes with this type of thing. It doesn't matter how many votes one gets or how much his or her post makes, that person will always wonder why more people didn't like the post or video or whatever. I think there are a lot of people who have trouble dealing with that and when it is combined with a lower payouts than they were hoping for (like the vast majority of us have had and continue to deal with), they end up getting fed up way before they really gave things a chance here.
Many will be back and sadly, they only want to post when the price is up.
I was almost ready to throw in the towel at .07 cents, when we jumped up to .26 cents, I understood why I was doing it. :)
Haha I think this last dip was the lowest I have seen it since I have been here but that really does put it in perspective though. "Low price" is a relative term lol.
I think you are right. I felt kind of bad unfollowing so many accounts over the last few days for that reason but I was pretty lenient. I set a limit at no posts or comments in three months (give or take depending on how frequent they posted before and whether I really liked their content when they were posting).
The thing is... .26 cents was GREAT after .07 :) I think my account went from $900 to 2400 and suddenly I "felt" what a pump would feel like.
Hopefully it hits 5 cents before it shoots to 8 dollars again 😄

Right? I expected the price to take a bigger hit when the wallets opened.
I am still onboard with steem but do agree that it will be a long process. I have actually only been Investing three months but it seems like a lifetime. I did decide to not spend as much time here and just treat it like any other investment, managing the risk/reward ratio. I believe that cryptocurrency is the future and I actually like the business model that steem offers.
And the first month felt like 2 months, and the second month felt like...5 months...
It's an old Steve Martin joke :)
I've cut back my Steem addiction many times, but I can't break it.
I’m sure when I have more of an investment it will be the same for me.
I think your right it will be a slow 6 months ahead but I think the long term potential is still strong so I am here for the ride and sees where it goes
Yeah, I'm powering up all I can. I am fortunate, I can wait. And I enjoy steeming...

Sigh...
I think rewards might be going up so that is a good thing.
I took a break..it helped...will be taking another break to let the HF20 dust settle...
