Distro Choices

in #distro2 years ago

BSD hates hugs and pretty much has no software worth a damn for desktop use. Canonical pushes the limits without every really asking the "community," if it even exists, to the point of pissing people off and try a derivative instead. They are partnered with Microsoft and you can only make the "tool that's best for you" arguement to a point before you need to realize who is actually being used. Arch is geared towards "get off of my system" conservatives that hate using a mouse. Gentoo is for the extremely paranoid with too much free-time. Fedora is for those who aren't familiar with OpenSuSE but like RPM packages more than DEB to actually use Debian. OpenSuSE is for people that like RPM but want to get as close to the Ubuntu life-style as possible without diviating to much away from a Red Hat philopshy. Slack is mostly for Linux From Scratch projects these days or sometimes Puppy, which is garbage compared to AntiX. Debian is just Debian. You either like it or hate it and most of the time it all comes down to package management because you can always just change the desktop environment. When in doubt, just do a distrowatch search and be glad you have options. I love Linux but when you pick your distro, you pick your hell and the community that comes with it. Out of everything I've tried, my personal favorite has been MX Linux.
