How I Made My First Craft Sale with a Handmade Doll

in #diylast month

Crafting has always been my passion, but I never imagined it could also become a source of income. In my latest project, I created a handmade doll using upcycled materials and simple crafting techniques which I have been busy with lately. The best part? It became my first craft sale.

Using a plastic bottle as the base, fabric scraps for clothing, and yarn for hair, this doll is not only adorable but also sustainable. The process was therapeutic and rewarding, and my friend’s daughter absolutely loved it. If you’ve ever thought about turning your crafts into cash, this is a great way to start.

Materials List:
A plastic bottle (cleaned and dried)
Fabric scraps (for clothing and decoration)
Yarn (for hair)
Fiber fill (for stuffing)
Googly eyes
Buttons (recycled or new)
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Needle and thread
Scissors
Makeup blush (optional, for cheeks)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Prepare the Bottle Base: Clean and dry the plastic bottle. This will form the doll’s body.

Create the Doll’s Head and Hands: Hand-sew fabric into round shapes for the head and hands. Stuff with fiber fill to give them shape.

Assemble the Doll: Attach the head and hands to the bottle using a hot glue gun or sewing. Ensure they’re securely fastened.

Make the Hair: Cut yarn into even lengths and attach to the doll’s head for hair. Style as desired.

Design the Outfit: Use fabric scraps to create a dress or outfit. Add details like ruffles, collars, or bows. Sew or glue them onto the doll.

Add Features: Attach googly eyes, buttons, and use blush for the cheeks to give the doll personality.

Finishing Touches: Check all parts are secure and make any adjustments for a polished look.
