Guy's today I was making my own nettle tea and I found something that I just had to share with you.
Last year @papa-pepper made a post about compost tea and I have been following his advice for a year and I have had great results.
With me being a little nuts I do the stages to making nettle fertilizer a little different, I don't strip the leaves of the nettles by hand I use a pair of scissors, and I have a good reason for this.
Every leaf of the nettle plant I cut with scissors and I check every leaf to make sure there are no caterpillars.
I found 4 caterpillars all green like the one in the photo above, the guy above was the best one to photo as he was a little larger and plump than the others.
My kids love when I make nettle fertilizer as I always find something for them to put into a nature jar.
I then put all the leaves with no caterpillars in a water tub and add water to the top and place it in the sun to stew.
Depending on the weather I should have fertilizer in a week to two, which is great as my old batch is running low.
I add one part fertilizer to 10 parts water when watering my plants, the difference is remarkable.
I have seen bigger flower heads on plants and it doesn't cost anything to make.
I have also made some comfrey fertilizer, it is the same prosses to nettle fertilizer but with a different leaf.
I have been told to use the comfrey fertilizer on different items on the allotment and the old-timers down there are big on this stuff over nettles.
Have you ever used comfrey fertilizer? if you have what kind of results did you have on your plot? leave your replies in the comments below.
until next time my friends, stay safe.
