A few months back I made a post about using Steemit to help fund a project of some sorts. I had decided on building a bluetooth speaker to be my project. I thought is should be something I could figure out how to do and that it wouldn't cost too much.
Here's a link to the last build post. That post will also have links to all the other previous posts so you can see all that was done.

Here is a picture of how it turned out.
But really the point of all this wasn't really to build a speaker, but it was to see how I would do using the Steemit platform to offset the costs of a project. To see if sharing the build process with the Steemit community could pay for itself.
So how did it pencil out. My total costs for the project was about $120 for the electric parts, wood, glue, stain, hardware and other stuff I needed to finish this. So after all the posts I made during the process, I ended up having 16.485 Steem Dollars and 9.353 Steem Power payed out. If I bought Steem with the Steem Dollars and powered down to Steem what I recieved at current rates, that should be about $27.
Now, I wasn't expecting to cover my costs, or even being close. I think at the end of my opening post I made a comment about just hoping to pay for the beer while I work. Looks like I more then covered that, so its mission accomplished. And I got a cool little portable stereo after it all too.
Really though, I think it completely feasible for someone with a decent following to fund a project of this size, as well as much larger. I could see someone with a large following being able to fund a project car or a trip. A trip is a great idea. Plan a vacation and daily blog it to pay for the trip. I'm sure someone is already doing it.
In the end Steemit itself was motivation for me to get off my ass and do something. That enough is a great reward. It this system of getting rewards for doing stuff that you would profit from otherwise and being able to help people get rewarded for what they do is pretty awesome. I look forward to what else I can think up to do on here and seeing what creative ways people come up with to provide comment and use this system.
Thanks to everyone who followed along,
Brian
The effort put out here was well worth the costs. You were steem robbed! Great series of posts. Keep posting your ideas.
Thank you. I wouldn't have gotten anything from a post in some audio forum or on facebook. I think the potential for Steemit is really exciting.
