Make Your Own Beard Oil

in #diy8 years ago

Beard oil is used to moisturize facial hair and the skin beneath facial hair. Regular use of beard oil will keep your facial hair soft to the touch, and it's a great way to prevent itchiness, flakiness, and scruffiness.

Most basic beard oils are usually a blend of two or three carrier oils, which you can select based on the skin and moisturizing benefits you want to experience. The ratio for mixing depends on personal preference, but equal ratios are a good place to start.

Common carrier oils used in beard oil blends include jojoba carrier oil, hemp carrier oil, almond carrier oil, coconut carrier oil, and olive carrier oil.

My favorite blend is usually just jojoba carrier oil and hemp carrier oil.

While a simple blend like jojoba and hemp will do the job of a practical and effective beard oil, you may want to consider adding a few drops of an essential oil to make your beard smell as good as it looks.

When I want to add scent to my homemade beard oils, some of my favorite essential oils include mint, lemon, lavender, and vanilla. I use one essential oil at a time, but there are plenty of mad scientists out there who have come up with their own elaborate recipes for the perfect beard oil scent - it's just a matter of taste and willingness to experiment. To infuse your beard oil with the scent of your choice, just add drops of essential oil(s), one at a time, into your carrier oil base, until you're satisfied. Remember that less is more - you don't want the scent to be overpowering.

In an absolute pinch, when practicality is more important than scent, most carrier oils like coconut oil, hemp oil, olive oil, etc., can actually be used on their own, no blending necessary, as an emergency substitute for beard oil.

To use, simply rub a few drops of beard oil into your hands and then massage into clean facial hair. That's it!
