Fellow Diy Steemers,
While out on a bike ride I happened to look down at the right moment and saw this silver grey thing under some leafs and ruble, something told me to turn around and check it out and sure enough, an I pad, It didn't have the digitizer only the LCD, some of the ribbon wires had been torn off and it was really banged up, all four corners were caved in, and few minor scratches on the back.
Once I got home I plugged it in and low and behold it kicked iTunes on without a locked iCloud account, which doesn't really matter as I can bypass it anyways, So this really gave me more of an incentive to go ahead and take a risk on getting it recovered. So took it all apart, started taking notes on things It would need, ordered the parts and re assembled it.
Most of my time was spent on doing body work and bending out all the corners so the digitizer would sit firmly. And getting the remaining adhesive off and new adhesive back on, yeah the new digitizer came with adhesive, but do to the amount of damage I had to build up places were there was no longer and edge. Having the gel case keeps it tight together as well
Happy ending the ipad is back working now!!
Total Cost for parts.
2 hours of my time
12 buks for a digitizer & home button
5 buks for power ribbon
10 buks clear gel case
Here are a few pictures before and after.
Basically, free iPad. Well done. I love fixing things left for dead as well 😊
yeah it was nice score, I just about left it but I was messing with my backpack so I wasn't really riding that fast and noticed it from the corner of my eye. Apple has that distinctive look.. Have a good one!
