Hey everyone!
This is my first post, so I just wanted to start off by introducing myself. My name is Alicia, and I live in Columbus, Ohio with my son. I'm an art major, and one of my favorite things to do is DIY stuff around the house. I want to create DIY tutorials that are easy to follow so anyone can tackle home improvements on their own.
This posts will be updating your front door. I purchased a HUD home, and my front door was one of the first things I knew I wanted to change.
I hate the color green. With a passion. And my front door was green, go figure. The first issue was the glass door. It wouldn’t shut, and just kept slamming in the wind, so I took it down, and then replaced the doorknob with a keyless entry knob.

I scrubbed down the door the best I could, then used painters tape around all of the parts I did not want to get paint on. Since I’m not painting the inside of the door, I taped right at the edge.
I used Valspar Duramax Exterior paint, in Satin, with the paint color Cracked Pepper.
I also picked up a little paint tray, and this 4 inch Doors and Cabinet roller. You want to pick up a roller that’s meant for doors and cabinets because they show less paint lines/streaks.
For the inner panels, I used a Wooster paint brush that is meant for trim. I LOVE this paintbrush (obviously, since it’s filthy). If you use this for painting near walls you don’t even need painters tape… but that’s another post.
Once you’ve painted everything, remove the painters tape while the paint is still WET. You don’t want to leave the tape on too long, or the paint will dry to the tape, and when you peel it off, the paint will come with it… and looks like shit.
I also wanted to add a kickplate so the bottom of the door doesn’t get too dirty, so I waited for the paint to dry and then installed it. Super easy, you just screw it on the door.
I then added a $10 wreath (50% off at Hobby Lobby), and I was done! This little makeover only took about an hour to do, and that crappy green is finally gone!
I hope you enjoyed my post! I'll be updating once a week with projects I'm doing around the house. Feel free to send any requests/questions my way!
