It's time to do some Man-Stuff. When we first bought the house I knew this porch was going to need a face-lift. The gap at the top of the post was relatively small, so I wasn't too worried about getting right to it. Then I noticed the gap getting larger and the whole concrete porch settling. Gee thanks to whoever poured the concrete, for not prepping it properly. You Are The BEST!! NOT!!!!
Well the day has come!! 28 degrees F, sun is shining and you can guarantee I'm doing some Man-Stuff around the house. With the Honey-Do list stacking up over the winter, I need to get it while the gettin is good.
In this video i will show you the process I went through to rebuild the posts and railings on my front porch. With a few tip and tricks to make the job easier and faster. Work smarter not harder. This project cost me less than $100 and I couldn't imagine what a contractor would charge to do this, 3-4 maybe $500. It took about 4-5 hours for just me to rebuild it.
I still have some finishing touches to do and plan on painting it later in the summer so the wood has time to weather a bit. This will help the paint stick better and not have a tendency to peel or bubble.

I love the concept of doing thing yourself. Most people don't know how much they can safe if they trying to get thing done on their own accord, it make alot of sense because no one know a thing better than the one who build it up. I say a big well-done to you. Be sure to do the painting during summer.
If you got the skills, use them. If not, take a shot at learning a new one. I couldn’t tell you how much $$ I have saved being able to do things myself. Ya it takes time and free time can be difficult to find sometimes.
