DIY projects for the year

in #diy9 days ago

I searched for small calendars that I could pin on my kitchen wall. The ones sold on Amazon did not meet my expectations and were also costly. So, then came the thought - why not DIY?

There are several things we can try and create by ourselves instead of having to spend a lot of money to buy. Below are a few I thought about and hope to do it.

Calendar

It is easy to make a small DIY calendar. Take a few papers that are thick enough. Draw the columns and use sketch pens or colored pencils to mark the days of the month. Include other details that you would like to and that you might not find on those sold commercially. For example, reminders of birthdays, anniversaries, and so on. You could also paste colorful cutouts of whatever you want there. Including children or other family members will increase the bond and you could also make it a yearly event.

Window curtains
Are those old curtains looking shabby? Do you want to change it but just don't want to spend more?
You can convert old unused but 'still in good condition' clothes to window curtains. People who love to sew would already know how to go about it but for those who do not, just try to measure your window. Then select the cloth you would like to make the curtain or drapes of and sew it. You can watch some tutorial videos on social media to learn how to sew a curtain. If you do not have a sewing machine, you can also do it by hand otherwise ask the help of a local tailor.

DIY waste paper basket

A waste paper basket would be very useful for you. You can make one by yourself. Just try to find a brown cardboard box that looks and feels the size. You might have one of those Amazon delivery boxes lying around. Cut out glossy magazine sheets and paste them on the sides of the box. Then line it with whatever fancies you. There you go. Your DIY trash bin is ready and did not cost you a cent.

DIY projects also help in reusing and recycling old stuff. You will be able to save money but also have the satisfaction of having created something on your own.

Those who do needlework can of course make their clothes and crochet socks, caps, blankets, and so on. If you are interested in learning how to crochet, there are a lot of tutorials on YouTube and you also get to buy starter kits on Amazon.

DIY projects can also include gardening and growing your veggies on a bed you make in your backyard. The sky is not the limit when it comes to getting your creative juices flowing.

Other DIY ideas include making gift cards, invitation cards, jewelry, electronic projects, modifying your garden, interior decoration, restoring photo albums, and even painting your house.

Do write about what you have done and whether you have been inspired enough to DIY.
