Susan Gedye, who lives in the North Island town of Rotorua, woke up in the early long periods of Tuesday morning supposing she was encountering a seismic tremor. "I got woken up around 2 a.m. thinking 'gracious, there's an immense tremor occurring here,' there was a great deal of shaking and shocking," she disclosed to Radio New Zealand.
As the shaking proceeded, she went into her kitchen to examine, watched out of the window and saw "a major spring leaving the ground," she told the nearby news station.
