I agree with the general sentiment of the writer although I am not surprised at all that this format works so well in shorter episodes. That is exactly why I rarely watch television. Everything seems drawn out for no reason than to fill an hour, or an entire season. When I watch most serialized dramas all I can think is that really need a good editor.
I like brevity and minimalism. I don't necessarily have anything against long movies, but even epic films are shorter than the seasons of television we are asked to consume.
I say bring on more half hour dramas and 8-episode seasons. I'm more likely to watch. Better yet, be bold and only do a single season of a show with a good predetermined character arc.
