Coconuts are brilliant because they can be used for many different things as well as simply eating them or drinking the coconut water (which happens to be technically called the liquid Endosperm!)
Now there is a lot of current debate about how healthy coconut oil actually is but more important that the edible part of the coconut is the husk because it can be used for a multitude of things including making coir yarn and rope.
Coir rope has a very special talent, it is the only natural fibre that has no adverse effect from seawater and as such is often used in marine and fishing applications.
In this case, it is twirled up to make delightful coasters.
Perhaps once upon a time, the coconut that created this rope was in our garden in Thailand! Who knows, but we know one thing, coconuts are an incredibly abundant natural resource!
Coir yarn made from the fibre of coconut husks is the perfect material for making a durable coaster. This is a guide about making a coir yarn coaster.
