There was a time, that people of my age can easily remember, when the only time you could be contacted was whilst at home or at work. The in-between times you were uncontactable!
Looking back, what did I do knowing I was temporarily incommunicado? These days, the panic would set in!! What if someone needs me urgently? They never do!
This great little article from www.theartofmanliness.com suggests we should take back these times of blackout and enjoy the peace.
What do you think ?

I have to create a habit and stick to it, so my phones are always in my pocket or in my bag. They used to always be in my bag before the advent of actifit. At night, the work one goes on the charger downstairs, and my personal one on the night table. Unless I am expecting a call, the sound is turned off and I check them from time to time (convenient to me) through the day. I don't have work email coming to my phone. I used to be the same with the landline - the ringer was switched off and I would check the answering service from time to time. Nowadays, the landline isn't even plugged in.
It's funny isn't it. Whatever did we do on buses? How much the world has changed in the last 30 years with regards to technology and our permanently switched on state!
I personally turn off all notifications on my phone and the ringer is always off at night. I actually enjoy the fact that here in Thailand, no one is going to call me lol......I call my Mum and friends a couple of times a week on Skype and I might get an odd call from the wife if I'm out and about but other than that, nothing!
I like the silence, and turning off notifications for all apps means it's my fault if I pick up the phone and look at it.
Seriously, what the hell did we do in the 80s? 2p and 10p coins at the ready!
