Russia 'successfully tests' its unplugged internet

Whilst everyone is aware of the @great Firewall of China' and the governments fairly successful attempts at limiting their citizens Internet access, I assume not many people understand that the world wide web being 'de-worlded' is a much bigger issue than many might think.

Russia has just tested its own national wide web thus cutting its citizens off from the outside world by limiting access to the undersea cables and the nodes to which they connect to. Its not difficult for a government with the resources and intent to seriously censor its own citizens, leaving them in a bubble, being fed information chosen by their government. IRan has such a system and of course, North Korea has practically zero access via the www to the outside world.

Please read this article. You will be shocked.

Finally, what would happen if your own government introduced this technology, but didn't actually tell you? How would you know if what you were seeing online was simply what your government allowed you to see? Scary shit.
