Hi friends!
One of the projects I am most excited to share with you later this year is about 8 years in the making: a musical written with legendary American author Tom Robbins (Jitterbug Perfume, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues) called "B is for Beer".
A Child-Like Musical About Beer?
Yes. Once upon a time (right about now) there was a planet (how about this one?) whose inhabitants consumed thirty-six billion gallons of beer each year (it's a fact, you can Google it). Among those affected, each in his or her own way, by all the bubbles, burps, and foam, was a smart, wide-eyed, adventurous 7 year old named Gracie; her distracted mommy; her insensitive dad; her non-conformist uncle; and a magical, butt-kicking intruding Beer Fairy from a world within our world.
Populated by the aforementioned characters—and as charming as it may be subversive—B Is for Beer takes it audience, young and old, in a surprising, far-reaching investigation into the limits of reality, the transformative power of childhood, and, of course, the ultimate meaning of a tall, cold brewski.
The project will be introduced with a star-studded soundtrack album featuring songs from the show by myself, Tom and my collaborator Michael Wells, featuring Laura Silverman, Busy Phillips, Paul F Tompkins, Jon Cryer, Cary Brothers, Alex Wyse and more to be announced.
But for now, enjoy this video of Tom and I discussing the origins of this bizarre tale...
My video is at DLive
I'm excited about this!
WIll it be staged? Is it going to be released in other ways?
So much of that is out of my control. I know how to make a great album of the songs. Ill leave the rest up to the universe!
Amazing Video, you like german beer?
